can anybody tell me what the spark plug gap on a x reg 1.3 felicia estate is please?

When I done mine on the motorbike the gap was wrote on the box the plug came in, and iirc was about 1mm

(obviously being a car yours will probably be very different, however what I mean is that I think the gap comes from the plug and not the motor mate)

The simple bit is finding the gap - from Haynes finding the engine variant( if you need to replace plug ) is not so easy -then again enter stage right someone like TT to help us out .

Know that the yellow Skoda symbol means hi compression - but how do you tell which of the other types it is .

then again enter stage right someone like TT to help us out .

*enters downstage left* LX snaps to green, SFX dum dum duuuuum.... "king rat"... anyway i digress :giggle:

all of the 1.3 skoda engines are quoted as having a 0.8mm gap, but to be honest when you buy plugs they come pre-gapped so there's no need to fiddle with them, if they are worn enough to need re gapping i suspect they probably need replacing anyway...

i'm not an expert on the 1.3 litre engines like the 135/136, i'm more into the vw engined stuff.. so i wouldn't like to comment on which plugs they take, you need to speak to djaychela on here, he pretty much knows those things inside out.

Interesting, the spark plug spec in my Haynes manual (2003 edition) says 0.9mm for single-electrode plugs, but then the types of plugs it lists also seem to be wrong, so I'm not putting much faith in that.

If it's on an X-plate it pretty much has to be an MPi engine - some of those have multi-electrode plugs, which aren't adjustable anyway. Cross-referencing the info I have suggests this applies to those given a VW engine 3-letter engine code (AM*), whereas those with the older Skoda 135M/136M codes take the alternative (fine-electrode plug, 0.8mm gap), but don't take that as authoritative. The only 135 engine I actually owned was slung over the rear axle ;)

And my copy is 2002 . As said ,looking between the two sections mentioning plugs and engines - ( not to start looking at low/high compression versions ) - the mind boggles .Possibly I'd be tempted to believe previous person had got it right and look for the type number on the plug .

Haynes says:

- for 135 engines (carburetor) = 0.8 - 1.0 mm

- for 135B, 136B (mono motronic) = 0.7 - 0.8 mm

- for 135M, 136M (Simos 2P) = 0.8 mm

don't you just love Haynes? they let you experiment.
