Does the Octy share exactly the same quality parts as VW cars?

Featured Replies

Just being curious. If they have the same parts then why Skodas are so much more reliable than the VW sister cars?(According to several reliablity surveys) Is it because Skodas are better assembled?

That could be one factor.

But also I have noticed that Skoda customers seem to have lower expectations of thier cars than the VW crew. Where as Skoda customers are happy that they bought a VW for less money VW customers seem to think they have bought a Rolls Royce.

I've fixed some problems on customers cars that have bugged them for ages but they never thought to complain as they thought they might all be like it. You also get a greater appreciation from a Skoda customer I must say.

So are they any more reliable, maybe not. Its just if your customer base is a happier one they will complain less on a survey.

Take a look around your car at the amount of VW / Audi stamps on parts and you've got your answer.

As for why Skodas are more reliable, it can only be down to the quality of assembly. Perhaps the Czech workforce take more pride in their work than their better paid German counterparts...After all, even Mercedes-Benz quality is questionable these days.

Take a look at the JD Power results each year to see how "well" the rest of the VAG group do in comparison ;)

generally the only people to talk about reliability are people with problems. and then if you have two people with cars witht eh same problems and one paid thousands more then they are more likely to complain as they expect a better product

Mattijs posted an article here which mentions that build quality at (the Skoda factory at) Mlada Boleslav is only equalled by the specialized A8 factory at Neckarsulm. Put another way, Skoda build quality at that factory is better than that at any of the VW factories.

I've noticed a massive difference in the quality of cars that come through for Pre Delivery Inspection from SEAT and Skoda, Skoda are miles ahead. Leon's were quite common for coming through with three leather door trims and one cloth for example, great Q/C.

Those are the things I've been thinking of as well. I suppose there are less Skoda owners compare to VW's to rate their cars as well. I still remember one year the Honda City came top in the JD power survey but you could hardly see one on the street lol. In terms of the outright "feel" of the interior VW still holds its edge though. But I can't say the new Octy's interior feels anything worse than the mk5 Golf's any more.
