Aftermarket xenons

Featured Replies

Hi everybody.

Are there anyone out there who has put aftermarket xenons on their Superb 1? Is it possible without removing the headlamps?

What about the light faileure warning system, is it can-bus or some simpler version? (Cheap LED bulbs in the break lights works fine)

Tips and tricks would be great

I've retrofitted 60w Xenons in all my lights: headlamp, fog and high beam.

The car uses CAN-BUS warning system and, at least on my car, i cannot start the car with lights on without getting a warning. Because of this i turn my lights to the "off" position or "parking lights" before i start the engine. Then 20 seconds after engine start i turn the lights to on and everything turns on fine.

I might figure something out to cancel this problem, but i think it's there because the lamp connection cant deliver enough ground, when it all turn on. Dunno so far.

It's kinda tricky to fit it all, specially finding room for all the balasters. You will definitely need to remove the headlamps in order to fit it all properly. Word of advise: Seal holes and cable routes properly with silicone or an other water resistant appliance. Fit your balasters with the wires facing downwards, so that water will not sit in the connection/plug. IT IS NOT WATERPROOF. I've been driving with my Xenons for 3 years and i learned quickly, that rust and water will attack every wire and electronic part. Specially after winter, when salt on the roads get into every corner. I'm just trying to say: think before fitting. I also sprayed my cable plugs with water repellent oil.

Another advise: buy 4300K or 5000K Xenons. 6000K will do OK (also looks the best), but, in my opinion, too blue ish, "when driving everyday". You wont be able to see much with 8000K+. Trust me i tried it.

Other than that the light output is AMAZING. I will never ever drive a car again without Xenons.

Edit: I've made a little guide on how to remove headlamps: Click Me!

........ I've been driving with my Xenons for 3 years

I am genuinely interested in your reasoning for fitting the xenon's in the fogs and high beam?

Surely the amount of time fogs are needed (I think I have needed front fogs for about twice in 25 years of driving) and the fact they produce a bright white light - exactly what is NOT needed in foggy conditions makes it pointless?

Likewise in the main beam, by the time they have warmed up to give useful light it will almost be time to turn them back off again (apart from possibly very early in the morning ) this also reduced their life drastically - xenons do not like being turned on then off again in a short period.

I am unaware of 60W xenon's, but the 35W and 50W ones are pretty common now, I have 35W 4,300K ones fitted and they are superb, having compared mine with a car fitted with the 50W xenon's, the 50W ones are worth the extra money - but still stick to the brightest most usable ones - 4,300K.

Well my first thought was to get the same look from all lamps, which btw looks very nice. :-)

As you said, fog doesn't come often and there's no gain, they are very bright.

Driving on the freeway makes it VERY nice though. I've set the fogs to spread the light onto the sides, gaining extra light spotting animals and the like. You just have to trust me, it just gives you better overview when driving in the dark and the high beam is not available.

It's true that Xenons take a few seconds to warm up. After changing balasters to the 60W edition, I've come to live with it and i don't feel annoyed by it anymore, they warm up pretty quickly. That said, my 60W are modified by a friend, who's an electrician. He turned up the output on the 50W. Dunno how.

Oh and 3 years on the same bulbs. Still no significant light output loss on any of the Xenons, not even the high beam. New set of bulbs are about 12 euros including postal costs on ebay from Italy, so i'm not worried. :-)

Thank you for all inputs.

The plan is 35w, 4300k in the low beams wich will be transfered to the foglights on the new Superb i'm planning to buy next year. Better buy a set ment for the can-bus then?

Yeah i would suggest so. :-)

Just in time.

I lost a metal clip which fastens the bulp(H7) to the lamp when trying to change the bulp. Car is going to service due to change of brake light switch,I thought that they can fix this. Surprise, clips are not sold separarely, I should buy whole new headlight 8(. I didn't even ask the price. My plan is to switch H7s by xenons. I have had the Superb a bit more than two years and this is third time I'm switching bulps so I can get off this autumn routine also.

Is there any recommendations which xenon light kit I should purchase?

All I will say to that is it's not what you know it's who you know..................no need to dream.................. :|

I would not even bother doing the fog lights, as its illegal to use them in any conditions except fog, you can be fined for using them in wet or dry clear conditions and possibly receive 3 points as well.

They can blind the driver in front and oncoming drivers, If I see a muppet coming towards me with there's on I go to full beam if nothing is behind them

I agree with skippy - remember, you're driving a Skoda not a BMW

Depends on what country of course. In Denmark - no problem.
