Hit a pheasant at ~60mph

Featured Replies

Hit a pheasant yesterday at 60mph(ish) and it hit the driver's side headlight unit square on. No glass or plastic breakage but the two plastic clips at the top of the headlight that hold it in have snapped.

Will it be OK to take the unit out and superglue them back up?

:)

It'll never be as strong as it was! Have a look for a replacement, Unless you've got Xenons then mend it and hope for the best!emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Check with the stealers, there might be a repair kit to replace the broken clips. There are for other models in the VAG range.

Forget the headlight. Cook the Pheasant slowly in rhubard and cider, lovely.

superglue can work. I would seek to "buttress" where they have snapped with something though - just for extra reinforcement. :)

If there is no repair kit available then superglue will be pretty useless, either get them plastic welded or use something like Araldite or better still J-B Marine Weld

i take it you wrote the pheasant off.... emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

That's Poaching. The car behind can as it's then classed as Road-kill.

Stupid Phucking Pheasants! :swear:

Yeah, i'd say to plastic weld it..

Kev

I'd say you were unlucky mate.

I hit a pheasant once at 110mph in my Scooby, apart from a small mark where the beak had hit the spoiler, and plenty of mess underneath the car, there was no other damage.

My own theory is that the smooth flat-four warble of the scooby probably lulled the pheasant into a kind of trance state just prior to impact, making it relax just enough to avoid smashing my front valance into a million pieces.

dammit, i thought it said peasant. :giggle:

thought there was going to be a pic too with the old fella's hat still stuck in the grille

Yes, Poached Pheasant for about 1 hour.

Plastic weld them back on

It is luck of the draw when you hit a bird, I hit a crow at 120mph with no damage, but my sister hit a pheasant doing about 50 and it took the whole n/s light cluster off!!

I remember reading about a Golf GTI being killed by a crow going through the rad and cracking the block.

I was doing 70 on a long straight motorway, a crow was in the middle of the road

It sort of looked over its shoulder at me, and decided to take off, it was about four foot off the ground when I arrived

just missed the windscreen then a big bang and my roof arial was gone, and I left with a big hole in the roof

The crow I hit was very stupid, I saw him in plenty of time and moved lanes to avoid him, then the daft burger flew straight at me!!

Ross is back at Skoda now Ed, he may be able to source you couple of clips? And I hope it wasnt my xmas dinner that you ran over!!!

Thanks, but for the time being a temporary superglue solution has sorted me out. Looking to plastic weld next week, and look in to a longer term fix later in the year.

Which dealership is he at? The one in Malvern (or Powick)?

Actually, it is neither, "Powick" is the area down by the Petrol station and shop. The Skoda garage is in "Bowling Green", hence the name :giggle:

What a picky person ;)

Yes POWICK one Ed ;) haha - it has to be Powick as Powick school is only just over the traffic lights..... :p .... Its like sayin Hillside isnt Martley

Have you seen the photo of a BMW that hit a deer on the Autobahn; just about took the head of the top of the engine :o

So theres some crow flying around now with a car aerial stuck from its bum?

B) I used to do courier work in the area, so although the whole area is commonly called "Powick", the actual position of the village is down by the petrol station; once you are passed the traffic lights it becomes "Bowling Green"; hence the name of the Skoda garage.

I know a few horror stories about the new houses on the old mental hospital site if anyone is interested :giggle:
