Hi,

Can anybody tell me what the servicing requirements are for a 7 speed DSG? I've heard it referred to as being a 'dry' gearbox although it still has a small amount of oil in it according to an article I read here:

My service book only refers to oil changes for the 6 speed DSG box and there is no reference at all to a seven speed box.

Does it still need an oil change at four years like the 6 speed?

Seeing as we are taking delivery of a 7 speed DSG Octavia this Friday I too would be curious about maint requirments.

From the link you posted it appears that (i) gears lubricated as per a normal manual box, therefore service the same........... if at all?

Plus a dedicated circuit for the mechatronic unit.......which I would hope would be like a power steering circuit and not be susceptible to contamination... & with 12 plus years and 225,000 miles on a VW PS unit I would have some hope.

Hi Bouff,

Dry and wet refer to the clutch arrangement in the gearboxes, the six speeder has oil immersed clutches and the seven speeder has dry clutches, much like you would have on a normal car. The gearbox itself still contains lubrication oil, but in a much smaller quantity in the seven speeder as it doesn't need to service the clutches too. I would assume that the oil change is at the same time for both gearboxes.

Thanks Ian. I'm guessing that my service book hasn't been updated for the newer 7 speed gearboxes as there is absolutely no reference to them! From this forum I'm starting to realise that this is fairly common with Skoda literature/websites etc!!

The 6 speed was a big oil change every 40,000 miles and cost £140 I recall.

The 7 speed has much less oil as the clutches and dry and not wet multi-plate like the 6 speed and motorcycles so I hope the 7 speed service is cheaper and it should be as much less oil but I will shop around the local Skoda dealers to see who is cheaper and I trust to do it as labout rates also vary around £70-£75 an hour here in the Midlands.
