hi all after having my car for a few days its time to start the few mods i had been planning, first and for most being both the EGR and CCV mod :) i have read alot about both and have a FAIR idea of what to do altho looking at pictures before i had the car sometimes made it a little difficult to refer to as i didn have the actual thing of front of me so before jumping in i want to confirm whats what before i make any mistakes lol so today i removed the engine cover and took a pic to help you guys poiint me in the right direction :)

this is basically all i know and, could all you guys confirm that this is the correct procedure? also any tips and tricks would be really helpful especially what good for plugging the vacuum ppipe and for bunging the other pipe?

thanks :) jordan

Yup thats the EGR :D

The vac pipe doesn't need blocked if you dont want to, i just tucked mine up outta the way so nothing got into it. You'll also have another vac pipe coming off the EGR iirc ;)

Pipe leading off the crank case is vented to atmosphere down to the bottom of the car

Remove the pipe off the intake side and plug it with a bottle cap etc. Make sure it's well sealed though

Thats about it

thanks for the quick reply :) i think yours must be the asz engine as it has two vacuum pipes iirc? my is a 56 plate with the blt and has an electronic anti shudder valve so only has one vacuum pipe. if im wronf somebody please correct me lol :)

mine was a 55 plate vRS. Been a while since i've poked about the engine bay of a furby

If its only one vac pipe then your laughing anyway lol

If you want to do the EGR mod without removing the vacuum pipe, there's a sneaky trick to make it look original. Find a ball bearing that is just slightly larger than the inner diameter of the EGR vacuum pipe. Stuff it into the pipe and refit the pipe. Saves having hoses hanging loose, and keeps insurance agents happy.

I'm well up for doing this mod, but what's the benefit from doing this?

It'll stop your EGR valve getting to look like this over time

I have an aluminium machined bung for the CCV mod

The breather pipe runs over the back of the block and secured to one or two of the exhaust hangers under the car

make me a bung and lob it in the post mate please....emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

just get a table/chair rubber foot with a 19mm internal dia.

It was "included" in the price of the turbo works. I had used a drinks bottle cap up until then.

so my diagram is right then? lol

yeah, everything in your pic is labelled up correct.

It won't matter what you do with the EGR vac pipe though (disconnect it, plug it, stick ball bearings in it... :wonder: ) unless you have the parameters turned down via vag-com or other appropriate software you will get an engine light.

For CCV disconnect the breather pipe and use some 3/4" heater hose to extend from the rocker cover outlet to a suitable venting place (a lot of people use the floor, but a catch can is more advisable), then plug the hole in the intake pipe.

thanks for your help :) and yeah i do plan to get the engine CEL light mapped out at some point when i get the car mapped, but as long as it disables it thats the most important thing :)
