would there be no way of connecting the new one up with the old SMIC also?

Not really no, not enough room for pipework

would be a night mare to pipe up as the SMIC also has special clips...would also seem a little bit pointless getting the FMIC if you're still having to cool it twice.

Looking good buddy I to went the custom route with dannys help couple of things that may help I used a dimond cut drill bit to drill the holes for the mounting in the crash bar not sure if yours is mapped but with my pipes not being rolled on the ends I had lots of issues with pipes popping off I sorted this by roughing up the ends with sand paper cleaning them then applyed contact adehsive

This stopped that issue and it now pulls like a train I'm wanting to get it rolling roaded again to see what increase it has made as there is def an improvement and from my research before I took the fmic step most tech sites seemed to suggest a 5-10% increase on power after fitting a larger intercooler

weather this is true or not I will find out when I get it rolling roaded but IMO its has improved it no end as you said quicker reving holds boost longer and pulls more in every gear good effort matey

its probably worth getting some welds put about an inch from the tips of the pipes, this is what i've done, you wont get pipes popping off at all then.

Custom FTW

Cheers bud :D. What i've done, is gaffa taped roung the end of the pipes (sounds like a bodge job I know) but the silicon then slides over those pipes and it fits stays on nicely! Not taken it for a long enough blast to see if it'l pop hoses, but I have a 45mile commute to Leeds (Uni) later so that'l be the ultimate test :)

Did the diamond cut drill bit go through the bar fairly easily? I've been putting **** loads of pressure onto the bar and it just grinds a bit of the black paint away!

Defo custom ftw :p I may get the ends of pipes welded if I start having hose issues :)

I also notice my boost gauges behaviour has changed...It seems to flicker about a LOT more now, yet I have no idea why!?

Try a tiny drill bit first to make a pilot hole for the big one? And at a guess theres probably more fluctuation as your getting more consistant harder boost.

Yes it did go through but its hard work but don't buy cheap bits my cost £10 I think for the one but as danny said piolet it first with a small one and I would do it sooner rather than later under full boost the intercooler will be moveing around as my pipe work was pushing its self away from the front end I would take it easy until its mounted properly it was hard work just driveing back to my drive once a hose had popped of

custom brackets... my fmic sits about 2" lower than everyone elses seat sport ones.... i also don't have to lose a bumper fixing :D

can't you run the oem slats on the bottom of the bumper or some mesh or something as the nice shiney intercooler wont stay like that for long, needs some protection :D

Yeah. Well, as luck would have it, I have several friends who are engineers...and one of them has kindly ordered me a diamond 8mm drill bit from work, so that should do thew trick :p I'll get him to bring a smaller one too so I can use that as a pilot hole :)

I could do yeah, I just took them off for now, not sure what i'm gonna do yet :) will wait until i've got everything sorted (IC mounted properly and some lips welded on some of the pipes, as it's popping hoses like no tomorrow on full boost!)

Priceless isn't is?! :D

Can you get a better intercooler for the existing location? I'd have thought if your not chasing the 200 plus bhp it would still improve your mapped car but without the expense and bumper cutting?
