Diesel owners ignore this !

Featured Replies

I had a slow but steady trip back from Manchester yesterday. I have a car that will do 0-60 in about 7 seconds, supposedly reach 150mph, accommodate a shedful of stuff in the back and incredibly can return over 50 mpg if you set your mind to it ! That is amazing ! That is more than amazing, not to diesel owner maybe but it is an astounding petrol engine especially on a DSG.

Admittedly one gets bored eventually and returns to a more mundane 34 mpg whist overtaking nearly everything that moves on the B roads but that is still good.

PS 34mpg measured tank to tank, 50 mpg is the screen display (Consumption 2), 700 mile range is the screen display (630 miles) plus the distance already covered (75 miles).

That's pretty exceptional. Best I've had is 42mpg on a slow steady trip to Glasgow.

I saw 41mpg on a run from ossett to york .......not seen it since though! ....more like 35mpg recently!

This was BP Ultimate 97 RON by the way. I think it is exceptional and I wouldn't normally have the patience to drive at a steady speed for such a time. I too get 34 mpg on average, must have an average right foot.

I'm slightly disappointed by my mpg, ~34-35 on a motorway at 70 and usually around 30 or less on local trips - even when not driving like I stole it

If this is based on the onscreen display and not brim to brim measurements it's almost certainly wrong. Most Skodas seem to overread MPG by 5 to 10%. Even at that it's still very impressive indeed. It's really only when I've been stuck in a line of steadily moving 50 mph traffic that that sort of economy was ever approached (Based on the display, it was never checked with brim to brim measurements) when I had the 1.6 petrol Mark I.

Yep, the only proper way to calculate your cars true MPG is brim to brim and with a calculator

thats very impressive

not the consumption, i mean your ability to stay away from the right hand pedal..!

Best I have had is 640 miles on the TSI VRS with lots of 50-55 mph road works all over the SE England motorways.

Suprised (6 speed) DSG is giving better fuel consumption than manual as it add a lot, about 35 Kgs I think, weight and does not up the gearing as the 7 speed does which is much lighter, much smaller as it uses dry clutches rather than wet multiplace and does raise the gearing but only available of the 1.8 TSI as can currently only take 250 Nm of torque rather than the 280 Nm of the 2.0 TSI ie VRS.

Expect to get over 700 miles range shown on the 1.8 TSI DSG but well done for getting it on the TSI VRS. Mind you did see 1000 miles on my 130 hp 1.9 diesel A4 but that had a bigger tank ie more like 14 gallon rather than 12!

8mpg FTW

Use to get 5.9 mpg out of my 3.5 litre V8 Rover on its fuel computer.

To get 700 mile range you would have to be doing over 58 mpg in to the fuel computer's register.

Hard core hypermilers use a pen and paper :D

I actually mis the old VRSs 5 speed box, it was fun to spin it up to 70 mph in second.

Everything else is just that bit better than the Mk1 VRs. Bit more roomy, bit more fuel effecient, half a second fast to 60 mph, 4 mph faster if that matter 146 compared to 150 mph, bigger boot etc.

Mk 1 VRS was / is an awesome car, Mk 2 is a bit more awesome again. EA888 engine that is also in the 1.8 TSI as well as TSI VRS is awesome too espeicially with 7 speed DSG and paddles, 0-60 in 7.5s and 50 mpg extra urban!
