Lack Of Power

Featured Replies

when i bought my car the engine management light was on, got it read and its the 1st lambda, would this cause a lack of power? it feels like its not boosting as it should, just like a 1.8 haha

With a faulty lambda the car should still be boosting but it will be mis-interpreting the fuelling information causing it to run rich/lean so will not run 100% in terms of performance

i agree with above it sounds like you have more than one problem , has it got a standard DV on it

no got a forge one on it. I might try swapping them over

When my first Lamda started playing up the car seemed to drive fine so I think you might have another problem.

Try cleaning the MAF sensor with carb cleaner or Isopropal.

is that the one right by the air box? also my car is chattering, should it be?

Yep the MAF is next to the airbox. Chattering sounds like your DV (Diverter /Dump Valve) may be shot, which would explain loss of boost.

To check the DV remove it & push the piston up, hold your finger over the small pipe connection on the top, & release the piston, it should stay up until you take your finger off. If it drops down before you take your finger off it's broken.

should it stay completely still as mine drops abit,

should it stay completely still as mine drops abit,

OEM DV is notorious for seal failing, & often makes a chattering sound when it does.

I think as long as the piston doesn't drop all the way back down it's probably ok.

I have a spare DV in my garage somewhere so I'll check it tomorrow.

Just noticed you have a Forge DV, which don't fail, but do need to be greased occasionally.

forge dv (recircluating valce as it is known), which way round is it meant to be? its not dropping at all. starting to think if my pipes might be plumbed in wrong, also, i noticed that when i take my foot off the accelerator , the mpg (which is **** atm) goes to --.- is this normal.? its really winding m e up now, i'm paying stubid insurance on a slow car!! help me please!!

You can actually fit the forge DV either way round. On it's side it's slightly louder. I've done some Vagcom logs on it both ways, & on it's side it had slightly closer actual against requested figures.

You've got your display set on instant mpg rather than average.

Have you tried running the car without the MAF plugged in yet?

yeah tried before, kicked up traction control light? and didnt seem to make any difference. and i know it was on instant but, with my golf it just used to go up in numbers if you get me, never went to --.-. Dumpvalve is still chattering though, really irritating me now.
