wooing sound at speed

Featured Replies

Hi all was on the dual carriageway today doing about 60 with no music or fan or anything electrical on so it was just purely road noise which is rare in my car, and doing about 60mph there was a slow noise of like a woosh woosh woosh woosh woosh woosh then when increasing speed the noise increased in speed too to more of a dududududududu noise. :wonder: lame explanation I know but can't really think of any other way of describing almost as if the wheel wasn't round or something if you can get me.

Car has done 85,000 and is clunking a bit from n/s/f over speed bumps wonder if its down to knackered suspension? Or any other ideas

Would ARB cause the noises at speed? Could understand why over bumps etc but at speed the car isnt really twisting or suddenly jerking is it?

Eliminate the simple things first, difficult to tell from your description but has it ever has a windscreen? Has it just started doing it, have you replaced the wheel bearings at all? Are all the tyres in good condition and not on the wear bars?

It certainly looks like it has a windscreen :giggle: , no but seriously, looks fine mate dont look like its ever been changed, not wind noise for sure.

noticed it rumbled a bit on the motorway before, don't think the wheel bearings have been done, tyres are as new wear looks very even.

Just seen my dodgy spelling, bloody laptops!

My bet would be a bearing, its the only minor thing I can think of that would sound worse the faster you get. Does it make any difference going round corners, i.e louder turning right?

Id jack up each corner & spin the wheels & check the tyres closely for a flat spot or damage & check for any play in the suspension or wheel bearings.

hmm not really noticable ill try and get a video if possible.. does't sound like wheel bearing grind that you usually get as lock to lock its sound

sounds very much like a damaged tyre, check them all for bulges and try and spin them slowly with each one off the ground and check for roundness..

that or a wheel bearing on its way

cheers mate, think you'd probably be right there. what would cause a tyre to go off round? i did kerb a wheel the other day but the noise was there before hand..

Thought of something else, a broken under tray. Saw one flapping about on the motorway today on an A3. Could be worth checking its secure ;)

Thats a very good suggestion mate, noticed a section of mine was sagging a bit, suppose air could be causing it to go all over the place

Just a thought and it might explain the noise. You could always remove it or secure it better and have a test run.......
