K&N panel filter

Featured Replies

I have had mixed opinions from my engineering colleagues on k&n air filters.

Do you guys think or know if it will make any difference to my octavia vrs? I don't want to waste £45 on a filter if it has no effect.

Regards nick

Good, get one!

Even if it doesn't improve the performance massively it's still a filter for life. 3-4 services and its paid for itself over the OEM paper element....

Precisely the point!

Should help the engine breathe a bit better but isn't gonna give you more power, probably just drivability which is what it's all about. As said above, pays for itself in the long run, good for several thousand miles.

you will gain approx 0% power from fitting one, but as a non-replaceable filter it may be more economical, remember you have to remove it, clean it, and re-oil it every 15k miles or so otherwise you'd be better off not having a filter in there at all

Thanks.

So what is better about the drivability with the air filter? Also will it make the car sound better or not?

I have not noticed any difference. Being a panel filter in a diseasel, it's made no noticeable change in noise. People may say it makes a difference in noise and performance, but it may be the placebo effect. I have not noticed any change in MPG.

A cone filter will make more induction noise.

P.S. You've made a double post.

Ok, can I find a cone filter that will fit in my standard air box easily enough? If so are they just as efficient as a normal filter or not? Sorry for having so many questions!

Thanks again! 

Do you find you have to be careful that the garage doesnt ditch your air filter during a service? Or do they clean it for you? Its got to be good just getting one, in the interests of saving money.

Get it . I put one in every car I owned and it DID make a difference - more so with a petrol.

if you buy it new you get a warning sticker that goes on your airbox which lets your garage or whoever services your car know it has a k&n filter fitted.

i've fitted one to mine and it's made a slight difference although my airbox is drilled and de-finned so there is more induction noise too B)
