My 4X4 was first registered as new by Skoda UK on 28.03.02 (KU52***) and is a 2002 model. It was used by Forward Motors as a demonstrator prior to me buying it on 22.06.02. So when was the car built? (Colin knows the answer so is not eligible to vote in the poll!)

If you want to know when your 4X4 was built, send me a PM with the chassis (VIN) and engine number.

You can't vote either, big k! If you check the details of 4X4 demonstrator you had, you will probably come up with the same answer.....

Is there a prize or something?

Yes, if somebody would like to donate one. :)

I could have posed the question: Do you know when your car was built? Does it matter when it was built as long as it is the model year quoted? Mine was in such good condition that it didn't cross my mind to ask when it was built, and it obviously hadn't been parked in the open for months awaiting transfer to a dealer. Or had it?

If you want to know when your car was built, ask your friendly dealer who can find the answer in ETKA.

I would have thought like most 4X4's it was stuck in a field at one point or another with plough stuck to the back of it. :D;)

Voted,

I have always found that the date stamps on the stickers on the hoses and various parts under the bonett gives a pretty close date to when the car was built. Are they on yours reasonably close to the build date? i.e within a month.

I will check and report back. Nice one about the ploughs, Des. And refreshing to see that at least one person from Chatham has a GSOH. :)

It's a piece of cake this quoting lark ;)

I'm off to give that drum some stick :D

It could be up to a year old -my Galant was registered in March 1999, but was assembled in April 1998! God knows where it spent the intervening time....

I'm bored with waiting for more replies. Some interesting guesses, with a lot of members opting for the car being relatively old.

To recap:

1st registered by Skoda UK on 28.03.2002 - KU02***

Purchased by me in as new condition with 1500 miles on the clock 22.06.2002

Answer:

The car was manufactured at Vrchlabi between 31.07.2001 and 30.08.2001

The engine manufactured between 30.06.2001 and 30.07.2001

Although the car is a genuine 02 MY (production of which started on 01.05.2001) it is considerably older than I would have expected from its condition and paperwork. But what intrigues me is: where was the car stored between August 2001 and March 2002 when it appeared on the dealer's forecourt?

If you want to know when your car was built, or if you are buying a car which is either in stock or is available in the UK or elsewhere (ie you are not going to have to wait for it to be built), ask the dealer for that information. It could even open up the possibility of haggling if the car has been in storage for a while. If you alreadyy own the car, you will need to provide the dealer with the VIN and engine number for him to look them up on ETKA.

Thank you to those members who participated in the poll. :D
