Grrr!Thermostat again.....

Featured Replies

Need to change my thermostat AGAIN. This will be my 5th one in 4 1/2 years, tried 2 OEM and 2 aftermarket, getting a bit miffed with this now, never had to change a thermostat this often before, glad it's not a P.I.T.A. job just fed up of doing it every 8 to 10 months. Also had 3 C.T.S. Am i just unlucky or are some of you changing coolant parts on a regular basis.

Cheers Andy

UPDATE...

Had a play under the bonnet today, thermostat OK, CTS gone. Luckily had both parts to do a fix so spare thermostat lives for another day.

Scores so faremoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Thermostat 4 -- CTS 4

That sounds odd tbh, usually don't hear many complaints once they have been done, although when someone has already done I guess they don't ask the advice again. Does seem a little excessive, what coolant do you use may the parts don't like it ??

I have changed one CTS (and that might have been unnecessary) on my TDI in 172k miles and ever had to touch the thermostat.

Did you have a water pump break up and leave bits of impella floating around the system and which jam in your thermostat or is something else the matter with them?

My one is currently jammed open (well, I assume that is why my temp needle sits lower than it should and takes ages to go up from cold) and after a look in the Haynes I thought it looked like a real bum ache.

The CTS is what does the reading for the temp guage

2 pins for the guage and then the ECU , as the CTS will operate , if you like the choke

So the fuel economy can be poor aswell

For the money , I think OEM ones are better

059 919 501A 4 pin green they are

Thermostats are not THAT common to fail really

But the CTS has been superceeded as they failed so much

It's not too bad if you have the right tools (hex bits and socket and drive set with some thin extension bars), and you don't mind flusing and replacing the coolant when you do it.

Thats what mine did. Not sure if it was stuck but it was deffo forked lol

I'd get it changed asap as it kills the MPG

Hi!

This seems VERY odd!

What color coolant are you using? Pink or blue?

The difference is in the corrosion-protection. So dont use the wrong color!

As already quoted running G12+emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Mmmm may be that was not OEM , I would choose that over the popular copy ones

I would replace that

It is THAT easy , I would find another vRS owner and try his , dead easy to do , will take approx 20 mins to get sorted , so find a nice person

I am sorry you are missing me so much ;) , as I miss taking your money LOL

New job is great :) , back in parts , so get to play with ETKA , it is fun ;)
