5 Speed Manual Front Wheel Drive

Year: 2008 58

Mileage: 16,000

Part-exchange Price:

Excellent condition:

£7570

Average condition:

£6760

Below average condition:

£5950

Try a few dealers but don't try and play them off against each other just let them know you can be bothered to shop around. It is amazing how many people just go back to the same place every three years.

I was offered 1000 more for my trade in Fabia between 2 dealers.

Give it a wash before you take it in as well, when you take it to the dealer as I found I gained a extra £300 in the tade in proce of my car for my Skoda.

The trade in price doesn't matter. It's the price you have to pay that counts. Ask your dealer for the "price to change".

As an example if the "book price" for your trade in is £1,000 and the car you are buying costs £10,000 I presume you would be happy paying £9,000. However that takes no account of any new car discount. So if the dealer offers you £500 for your trade in but discounts the new car to £9,400 you would pay £8,900. Are you saying that you wouldn't take the deal then because your trade in was under valued?

The way I look at (although I stand to be corrected) is that the dealer makes a profit on both cars, the new one and the fact that he will ask over the trade in he gave you when he puts the car on the forecourt. I'm not getting at the dealers, I understand they obviously have to make a profit, but I was always told never to accept the first offer in any deal. Personally I think there will be some great deals next year if/when the country goes into recession again. One thing is for sure, Skoda will be cutting their throats if they withdraw the "VAT free" offer and don't replace it with something similar.

The first dealer I approached to buy a VRS (which still has the VAT to pay), offered me over £2000 under book price for my 2007 Fabia.

I rang lots more dealers and got this up by £1500, and then sold it privately for the same figure, and I could have sold it 20 times over such was the interest.

The reason I sold it was that one of the dealers a couple of hours drive away offered me £1500 off the price of a new car with no part exchange.

I therefore improved the deal by £3000 from my first enquiry.

I know its convenient to part exchange locally and not be without a car for a while, but its even more convenient to have an extra £3000 in your pocket!
