Have I been Duped... Heater issue...

Featured Replies

Took my Fabia vRS in to get the heater control unit checked as its only two weeks old and the heat coming out is either full on hot or off with no variable tempreture control. I already asked advice on the forum and was told that this is a known fault.

Driving to the dealer this morning checked it again and it was exactly the same > took it in and after half an hour they came and told me nothing is wrong and to go and check.

Sure enough the heater control now allowed a variation in tempreture  Now this seems to much of a coincidance but I dont understand why they would lie to me and not admit that they had to "fix" something on my car. Any thoughts??? Is this a known "I will not admit an error issue???

Seem to remember Ross mentioning that the heater control unit could be "reset" or something like that? Maybe that's all it needed? :)

Sounds a bit odd - but if it works now why worry :)

Not worrying but l always had a feeling about this dealer. I thought they could reset with VAGCOM but if thats what they did why not just admit it :)

Funnily enough I've noticed a similar problem with mine, now I've started using the heater. Don't like it too hot in the car...hot Viking blood I guess, ;) and as you say, it's either cold or bbq. no in between. Trip to dealer coming up I guess for a quick VAGCOM if that's all that's required.

Ironically in these days of all this hightec crap..multiplex wiring, ECU's, blah blah, the best heater I ever had was on my first car...a 1962 Ford Anglia! Could set your shoes on fire. The 1970 Cortina I had also had a fantastic heater and the ability to toast your feet AND blow cold air onto your face via the then revolutionary system to cars 'Airflow Ventilation System' as it was technically called IIRC.

You could do all sorts of DIY jobs in those days...NOW..... just chuck it away and buy a new one 'cus it's uneconomical or impossible to fix...and that's progress and evolution apparently. Load of old todge IMO.

is the new xtra grumpiness starting to show?

I had this problem in my car a couple of weeks ago, and it required a new climatic sensor which was a special order from Czech. I recieved the car back and though hmm it's still quite hot, but apparently the way climatic works is that it powers the heat out, and once it reaches set temperature it cools down. I trusted them and it's true, it does cool down at the set temperature, I've just got to stop driving with fleecey jacket on!

I've found if I leave mine on even 20 degrees, its blazing hot until it reaches that sensored temp, then levels out. Its just when the inside of the car is close to zero, having the heat coming out the vents to warm it up to 20 degC feels quite warm. ;) I often start driving with hat and gloves, and within a few miles, they're on the passenger seat, and I start undoing fleece zips/removing jumper, etc. :D

Touch wood, this all on or off phenomenon has not hit me yet.

May wel have needed the motors reset, or may be an intermitant fault.

And dealers dont use VAG COM!

And dealers dont use VAG COM!

Well whatever you call it then...SKOCOM!!! :D
