sumped octavia estate

Featured Replies

Hi all, my brother in law sumped his octavia 2.0 petrol a few weeks ago and needs it replaced. is it a straight forward job ie old sump off new gasket and new sump on or is it done another way. I'd really appreciate some help with this. Many thanks. Mark.

I have replaced a 1.8 sump but not a 2.0. the 1.8 was easy to remove,Drain old oil(if any left in)then unplug oil sensor & undo all bolts then carefully prise sump off the block, clean up block face then apply a bead of sealant to the sump face then fit to block & refit & tighten all bolts. The sealant i used required 24 hours to fully cure.

Cover off, oil out etc, then you may have an oil level/temp sensor in there that the wiring needs removing from, (on an AEE engine you'll have to disconnect the exhaust downpipe - be careful of the lambda sensor wiring) slacken the bolts and off it should come - it may take a couple of taps but by the sound of it it's probably been loosened enough.

Thoroughly clean the bottom of the block and then you will need to put a bead of sealant round the sump mating surface, around the inside of the bolt holes - you then have 5 minutes to put it back on, tighten the bolts in a diagonal sequence and half an hour later it should be good to go, oh and don't forget to reconnect the sensor wiring!

Hope this helps.

Cheers guys. No gasket then just sealer needed, should be handy enough.

I believe it is worth checking that the oil pickup filter is nice and clean while you have the sump off.
