FMIC Water Sprayer

Featured Replies

As I'm sure a lot of you know scoobys and evo's are fitted with these the theory being the mist of water helps remove the heat from the FMIC when on full throttle at high revs.

The idea of doing this to my car came to me when I was on the motor way after it had been raining and the spray from the road seemed to make my car pull a little better (it was a warm/muggy day).

Each time I had a car infront of me kicking up spray it seemed to pull better than if there was no spray being kicked up if you get what I mean.

I would have to fit a new washer bottle and mist jets at the sides of the intercooler but it would need to be controlled by a switch that I pressed rather than auto like the scoobys and evo's but I beleave I can do this for under £30. An auto one would be better but this is someing I need to look more into I have an idea how I could make this work but need to have a play about with my voltmeter fist.

Has anyone done this to there fabia ? Or any thoughts on how to make it an auto one? And before anyone says it I know my car is no scooby or evo and does not run the same power BUT in time I will be doing further engine mods so higher power and higher intake temps is what I'm thinking of

I removed the rear wiper on my car, and was contemplating doing this with the rear washer jet as this comes out behind the air filter under the bonnet...just never really got round to it. Probs wont no as im saving for an Exige S...but meh anyway...no thought of doing that in terms of the rear washer jet?

True but the rear washer jet is req for the mot if a wiper is in place and I would prefer a standalone system so it would have a dedicated supply of water the washer bottels are dam small as std on these just need to work out where I could mount it

ah you still got that stick on the back window then ;) haha

You can get a 5ltr bottle conversion, think a guide is on here somewhere. Tap into that with a motor and a mister spray, can also attach a temp sensor for the automation.

Indeed there is :thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks  Feel a bit lazy today lol.

I looked into water spray and water injection and if I did have enough time/effort to do it I would go the water injection as it can have potential gain in power.

Water spray would be pretty straight forward thing to do, and does not need a huge amount of precision (timing), but is that really worthwhile since you already have an fmic? I know the SMIC gets pretty warm pretty quickly.

For water injection it would need high actuation speed so probably best possibility is to use some sort of trigger with RPM or % of throttle..

I have a question though.. would using the anti freeze water be ok for the IC? Injection or spray? :S

Temp sensor switch could activate if the car is stuck in traffic and gets warm so would be wasted and I wouldnt be useing any chemicals in the water it would be just plain simpal H2o I'm thinking a switch mounted on the dash blanking plate me be needed but with regards does it need one subaru and mitsubish seem to think so its not going to be needed all the time just for when haveing a play

A customer of ours tried it and had a gauge for intake air temperature in his dash..

Said it made about 1-2 degrees difference, nothing compared to fitting a decent intercooler..

Kev

just use rear washer jet!!!!!

rear wash and wipe arent part of mot test

dewiper the rear re-route ur washer pipe job done :D

It is common, spilt hoses are the main culprit, usually near the rear half of the car. The washer jet is integral with the wiper arm, try unblocking that first.

Ok Thank you, I will get the hubby to have a look at it.. What is my next option if that isnt the problem?

Start a thread of your own in Fabia 1, you'll get more answers and ideas.

Find out if the washer motor is buzzing away when you operate the rear wash switch, at least you will know whether it is electrical or pipework problem.

I've just paid for my freedom membership so once I have a fully working kit I.e fully automatic and manual with low water shut off I will be selling kits on here

cheap manual ones are on ebay but I'm hopeing that this will be a high quality robust one it started of as a cheap diy job but if its worth doing its worth doing right and as everyone I have spoken to has already placed orders I'm trying to do it right IMO if you've gone to the expense of a FMIC you may aswell finish it off properly

Just stuck on one part that doesn't seem easy to get in the uk in small numbers or for less than £30 which is just silly :-( but on the plus side for people wanting abit of bling under there bonnet I think I will have just the thing for them :-)

Watch this space

ill be watching m8:thumbup:

So what will this kit comprise of..? the water tank, pump, spray, tubing, wires and this switch? approximate cost?

from the look of the switch, you'd need to drill into the IC pipe somewhere to get the reading....? (and if your doing that you may aswell for some injection route rather than water spray)
