Skoda Fun front exhaust parts

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

My son runs a Skoda Fun Pickup down in Eastbourne. We had the back three sections of his exhaust and his catyltic converter renewed two years ago. Now ATS (who I usually find very very good) have quoted him £290 to renew the front section of his exhaust saying he has to have an new catalytic converter at the same time, hence the price. As student he needs to save money where he can. Is it correct he can't just get the exhaust parts and if he can, where would be the best place?

Assuming it's the 1.6 engine (which I believe all Funs had), then unfortunately the cat is indeed an integral part of the downpipe/front section. Short of a fair bit of cutting and welding there's no way to replace one without the other.

What puzzles me slightly is from what you say, it sounds to me like he had a whole new system last time anyway - there's only 3 sections to the exhaust (unless you were to count the 6" connecting sleeve as one) and unless they chopped the cat out and welded a generic one in, it would have had to have had a new downpipe section if the cat was renewed.

Also, if the issue is repairable it should be a great deal cheaper to have a leaky downpipe welded up than to replace the whole thing.

I have to admit, my first question would be why does it need replacing?(Is the cat dead (Emissions failure)? Is it blowing (welding)? etcetc)

The second would be can I do it myself?

The third would be can I get the parts easily? (Jorily)

Thanks to RobinSLXi & RainbowFore for the advice. I think it was a bit beyond mending so to avoid an ongoing 'patching it up' situation we bought the front part, inclusive of cat for £93 from Cats4U. Thanks again - Slembo
