handing a car back to vwfs

Featured Replies

i am about to hand my car back to vwfs on a pcp agreement, does anyone know how fussy they are about condition and do they charge for marks on alloy's etc

i expect they try and make it worth as little as possible! i also think they charge you per mile over 30k.

Check small print on your agreement. They will try and sting you for every little thing.

the agreement does say you have to have taken reasonable care of the vehicle, but what does that mean?

i had a couple of chips - the tyres were on min, the tow eye cover on rear was missing and there was a ciggy burn on the passengers seat where some urchin stole me sat nav. oh and a denty bit on the window where the same urchin used a screwdriver.

so

they asked for nothing back from me despite the car being 80%

Don't worry, send it back. it only goes off to auction anyway.

VWFS appointed British Car Auctions as agents and notified me of my "independent " inspection would take place on Monday past. A "BCA" inspector spent 45 mins detailing every minute stone chip, scuff and blemish incl a 2mmx 2mm chip on roof on my 3yr old 62,000mile vRS. The guy subsequently informed me that my vehicle was substandard and the refurbishment would require full respray of front bumper, bonnet, both wings and refurbishment of all 4 alloys, total cost of £1200 + vat!!!

Utterly gobsmacked as I considered the car to be immaculate for age and stage.

Called VWFS and subsequently entered into email discussion with customer services regarding interpretation of fair wear and tear, eventually they reduced the bill to £500 + vat. Finally, after submitting images and lengthy emails on Tuesday they waived all the refurbishment charges completely!! The driver who picked it up was taking it directly to a Yorkshire auction, therefore no refurbishment would have taken place in any case.

Totally stressful process, as I believed that the car was really well looked after and in outstanding condition.Utterly appalling, I could easily see others panicking and paying up either initially or during the process. The inspection was totally out of context and the process could be argued by some to be fraudulent.

I sent my peugeot back on a straight finance.

In advance of doing this, I took it to a body shop, and asked them to quote to get it back to showroom, and they quoted £400. A couple of minor scuffs and stone chips etc.

I phoned the finance company in advnace, and told them the quote I had, and they said fine.

It might be that PCP is different to straight finance (as I used the 50/50 rule) but you have to expect them to try it on.

I will always now get a quote in advance so that I know worse case.

Most company car lease companies have a guide for wear and tear: http://www.lex.co.uk/pdf/Car_C&A_WR.pdf

this is the one from Lex Leasing. It follows a motor industry code so should be a decent guide.
