Alloy or steel spare wheel

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just in the process of purchasing a second 2007 Fabia Race Blue Vrs SE for the wife as she was gutted when i got mine back in March, so changing her Honda Jazz for her. Does anyone know for 100% sure if the 2007 Fabia Race Blue Vrs SE is supposed to come with an alloy or a steel spare as standard. The one i've got has an alloy spare, but on inspecting this second car i'm getting, it has a steel spare....... Thanks to anyone who can tell me for sure what is standard before i kick off on the dealer as their saying some come with a steel spare..............

The dealer is correct - all fabias came with a steel spare wheel as standard

Aand if you put an alloy spare in it doesn't fit properly in the spare wheel well which is annoying

Maybe i'm thinking of my octy spiders not fitting then, i do get confused sometimes

No probs,

Don't ask why the steel one has a 50mph speed restriction sticker on it., it has been discussed on here many times. I'm still not sure if a definitive answer has been found tough.

rgf897VRS,

Where in Wigan are you from? Think I drive passed your SE everyday :)

The only reason I could suggest is that the weight is likely to be different...

Its because the steel wheel is a single standard size for the range, and would be supplied with all cars irregardless of what the running tyre/wheel sizes are fitted. Because a size mismatch may occur they are obliged by law to fit the stickers.

Not sure what you mean re "single standard size for the range" - certainly mine has the same tyres as the car - and that certainly wouldn't be the case comparing a vRS to a lowly 1.2. All vRSs had a standard tyre size...

Nope its a full size 16 inch spare on the vrs, with the same sized tyre as the alloy and the same brand as originally supplied on the car.

My car has a 16" steel wheel with a 205/45 16 tyre on it, the same size as the other 4. The only difference is it's steel not Alloy wheel and has a Michelin Primacy Asymmetric (non-directional) tyre fitted.

I got the car 2nd hand so I don't know what it came with brand new.

My 1.4TDi has14" alloys on and a 14" spare ,and no 50 sticker . I got it with 15k on it ,with spare tyre unused ,so I'd suggest that they fit same size wheels ( be they alloys or steel) to each range .

The problem is, my dealer Mitchell Skoda at Cheshire Oaks has not made the answer to the original question any more clear by saying SOME came with a steel spare, surely all SE's would have had the same spare wheel unless the car had been ordered with an alloy spare, or purchased one after buying the car, can anyone say they are 100% sure what was fitted as standard.... As it is a steel spare in this SE i  i'll just get an alloy one for it.....

My 2004vRS had a steel spare wheel.

My 2007vRS has a steel spare wheel.

The Manual states:

Unidirectional tyres*

If you have such tyres on your vehicle, please refer to the notes below:

• The spare wheel provided with a car fitted with unidirectional tyres has different

dimensions. The wheel is provided with a warning sticker.

• After fitting on the wheel, the warning sticker must not be concealed (e.g. by the

wheel trim).

• Do not drive with this spare wheel at more than 80 km/h - risk of accident. Avoid

accelerating at full throttle, sharp braking and fast cornering.

• The inflation pressure for this spare wheel is identical to the inflation pressure

of the standard tyres.

• Use this spare wheel only to reach the nearest specialist garage as it is not

intended for continuous use.

I forgot about the "directional" problem in this context... Both my cars have had non-unis when new but I swapped the 2004 to Toyos and this one's going the same way soon...

As it is a steel spare in this SE i  i'll just get an alloy one for it.....

I've just bought one new - £154 from my dealer at 10% discount - but if you've got unidirectional tyres what's the point?

My 04vrs was steel, my 05 vrs was steel and my 07 se had a steelie too, all owned by me from brand new, unless a seperate spare alloy was ordered it came with a steel spare of that i am 100% sure
