Short rack

Featured Replies

I have read alot about people fitting the s3 rack onto there vrs... only 2.5 turn...

What exact modles will fit an octy as a shorter rack?

I know certain TT/s3/lcr ones do but what exact ones as i cannot find a definate list???

Will a 2004 TT 3.2 V6 rack fit and is it the correct one for a short rack upgrade?

Thanks

The S3 rack is a standard one.

The Quick or reduced through rack is fitted to all Golf mk.4 based 1.8T TT's (FWD & 4WD), Golf R32 and Seat Leon Cupra-R

Have a sneaky feeling the 3.2 rack maybe different again ...

If your car has ESP instead of ASR, you won't be able to use the quick rack.

It is a worthwhile mod

I was under the impression that the S3, R32, TT quattro(225) and Seat LCR all had the "quick" rack but the fwd TT and Seat Cupra had the same rack as the vRS?

Not sure about the 3.2 TT tho.

Fairly sure the S3 didn't get the quick rack - the clue seems to be the wishdones that the vehicle comes equipped with. Those cars with the quick rack also have the cast TT wishdones.

The S3 has the standard Golf mk.4 4motion front end setup, with pressed sheet metal wishbones, as found on the Octavia 4x4.

The cast wishbone is also worth doing at the same time: Link

IIRc the S3 does have it but not the 180 TT's.

I think lol

I did a lot of reasearch into this when I fitted one, which since exploded lol. TBH I noticed a little difference when I fitted it, but when returning it to standard I hardly noticed the change.

you can use the 3.2 ones too, just need to change the flange in the hub to 2wd ones.

I have an LCR quick rack on my car. It has ESP and yes, from time to time the ESP reacts too soon. But, I wouldn't go back to my old one. The car feels so sharp now. It's up to you to put in balance the advantages and disadvantages of this mod.

I'd like this quick rack mod on my 4x4 but the ESP/ASB coding is putting me off getting it done.

yes its well worth it, but imo is dangerous on a car with esp...
