P'raps the Czechs have done the job properly then, 'cus the french certainly haven't.

Probably the worst feature on that wretched car. Roll on August.

Must go and book my free trial day in one v. soon. In fact, see if I can blag one for a weekend...offer them a little freebie job as an incentive p'raps. :rubchin:

I would let you try the Superb in the wet, but I,m not sure you could reach the pedals :D :P

Much better than that CJ....we both love them here....especially the added benefit of auto switch to fast action when at speed (usually overtaking a lorry)

Been on motorway in the car today - sussed wipers after posting the first thread. Personally I think they are far better than having to switch between intermittent and slow / fast wipe when overtaking etc. etc. Seem very effective. I was also dubious about the aero wiper blades as well but first impressions are good.

Dont get pressure lines with them....a great improvement.

Thought the Superb could only be sailed in the wet anyway. ;)

I'm 6' by the way.

Believe it or not the car wipes the floor with the vRS (obviously not performance). It handles better' date=' is far comfier, the radio is a masterpiece - without the fiddly directional button. The build quality is far superior, it feels so much easier to drive, the power is instant from under 1000 RPM (not nearer 3000 like the vRS). Plus last 2 days 51mpg!![/quote']

I agree that it is a better car, if you read the posts I made after my 24hr test drive in a 1.9TDI Octy 2 you will see that. However it is slower, and it does not look as good, which was all I asked in my post. He has after all traded a sporty version for an ordinary family hatch back. The power might come at 1000 rpm but it also fades quickly, certainly in my hands I get plenty of power from the petrol at all rpm, even before the turbo kicks in, something you will not get with a diesel, that has all the power of a dead slug with out the turbo charging.

Are you talking about the 1.9TDI you drove, William, or the 2.0 TDI PD 140 which tomo2001 has just bought? The latter develops 236lb ft at 1750 rpm with a top speed of 129 and a 0-62 time of 9.6 seconds - hardly sluggish. As for looks, that is in the eye of the beholder.

Look, the only car William likes is his own. I've seen so many emails from him containing disparaging remarks about Octavia Tdi's, Fabia VRs/TDI, the new Octavia etc....

It's starting to bore me.

Look I am not a fan of disesels as a driving experience. I think that as long as the gap between unleaded and Derv price does not continue to increase, the TDi is a very practical choice, but not for the pleasure of driving. As for the Octy 2, I think it is a great car, and a very significant improvement, and I want one, but I still do think that the original version is better looking, especially in vRS form.

I would not have had any surprise if the thread poster had moved from an Octy Tdi to the Octy 2 2.0 TDi, but the move from the vRS to the TDi is a move to a car designed with a completely different type of use in mind, ie a move from a fun car to a practical everyday family hatchback.

Yes it was the 1.9 I drove, but the difference in cc is so small that I would guess that the 35bhp difference is mostly to do with the Turbo set up and therfore my point that untill the turbo kicks in the Diesel engine is a slug, stands. That was the problem with the 1.9, moving off for example you had to floor the accelerator to get any kick, with the 1.8T you still get plenty of power before the Turbo comes on (just as you get with the 1.6 petrol which manages at least as well as the 1.9TDi with out the benefit of a turbo).

The octy vRS is still a family hatch, ok it's got big wheels and a turbo, but it's still a family hatch. they're both designed with the same use in mind but one is pretending to be a sportscar as far as i'm concerned, and fails miserably.

William, everything you've said in this and similar threads has been just your opinion, but it gets tiring when you constantly present it as fact, and imply everyone who does't agree must be subnormal in some way.

We're not all motivated by the same factors when buying a car. there have been big changes to the company car tax regulations recently, which mean that a diesel car is far cheaper to have than a petrol car. And the 2.0 tdi is cheaper again than the 1.9 beacuse of its emissions.

While I respect your opinion in this matter I have to disagree. If you found the 1.9TDi to be sluggish off the line compared to a 1.8T then all you are doing is showing a lack of driving experience which may or may not be limited to diesels. I'm not going to get into a big debate about diesel versus petrol turbo but as is said elsewhere, your comments are misinformed and uneducated which doesn't enhance the thread in any way shape or form.

I have to agree with agent006 - it's horses for courses. I had an Octy vRS before the Superb and, while it was a fantastic car to drive on the right road in the right conditions, the rest of the time there was no benefit to having all that power and I used to get very frustrated when I was stuck behind people. The Superb is not as fast (though the midrange acceleration is more than adequate), and it doesn't go round corners, but it's a much less frustrating car to drive overall. I also find the low down power of the diesel suits my driving style better. Am I saying that William is wrong to prefer his vRS? No, of course not. I'm just saying that I'm not wrong either because I prefer a more softly sprung diesel.

Edited to make it clearer which post I'm replying to

Actually I do not prefer the vRS. I am considering a change to a high spec Octy 2 or even a mid pec Superb once I have cleared another year and a half or so of the finance on the vRS. My point was that many people who would seek to buy a 'performance' car would not be interested in a highly practical economical to run family car. Yes the vRS can fit the family in, but with its low suspension not suited to carry loads of weight, and poor fuel economy not the most practical for day to day use and the interior decor - kids............all the reasons I want to change. My head tells me get a TDi (althoughn not being a company car driver I would get the 1.9Tdi for its better economy), but my heart says 1.6 FSI as I have never 'enjoyed' the all or nothing type power delivery of turbo diesels. they are just to much hard work to drive well.

William..

I strongly suggest you test drive a 2.0TDI Octy II or a 130 1.9TDi Octy 1

There is a big difference in performance between the 105bhp 1.9tdi and the

140bhp 2.0..

I had a 5 hour stint in a 2.0TDI Octy when my vRS was in for a service.

Over normal UK roads. I would honestly say that the Octy II TDI was quicker and easier to drive than my vRS....

The suspension is not as firm and is more complient. The 2.0TDI is a fantastic engine giving a shove from around 1300rpm and only tails off

over 4200rpm.. couple this with a 6 speed gearbox, makes overtaking

etc.. easy...

Would I have one... Mmm not yet I would wait until there is a sporty version to the Octy II.. I also really like the Fabia vRS...

The 1.6FSi would be in one word gutless .. and easly overpowered by even the 1.9tdi.. It would be smooth but only until you needed to thrash it to get moving..

Also driving any TDI engined car you don't rev it anywhere near the redline, change up early and let the massive torque to propel you along ...

cheers

Dazz
