G60 flywheel converstion

Featured Replies

well after a mates box on his vrs decided to spit it's dummy out last week he decided to go the G60 route.

so after ripping the box out last weekend he ordered a replacement box, G60 flywheel, vr6 clutch and oil etc...

last night the box was put back in and OMG!!!! what a difference!! it feels so much more free revving and the lightness of the clutch is unreal!!! next job for mine i thinks!!

Hi,

Firstly thanks to Lee for helping me out with this (practically doing the work for me! )

to answer the questions, the part numbers i used were all taken from a particularly good writeup by another member so to save re-inventing the wheel, http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/150787-clutchflywheel-review/page__p__1877641__fromsearch__1entry1877641

for the clutch, I called GSF and quoted the VW part number and asked them to supply the equivalent LUK item. the rest was sourced from my local Skoda dealership.

The difference is awesome, really does bite well and feels much more positive, the DMF always felt a little 'woolly'!

From reading previous posts, I was expecting some clatter at idle, but to be honest, I have noticed no difference between the two setups either in noise of vibrations etc.

I cant recommend this conversion enough!

Thanks again to Lee for taking the time to help be get this sorted!

Waheyy that other member was me!

Glad it was of use to you. It was meant to be the definitive thread on the conversion, cos a lot of the VW forums don't answer some of the important questions. Glad you love the conversion too, I'm still loving mine!

Euro Car Parts do the full kit with flywheel, clutch, release bearing and flywheel bolts for about £230 quid all in, off the shelf.

We had this fitted in the wifes Golf GTi Turbo and its made a massive difference, revs more freely at motorway speeds, clutch is nicer, there is a slight judder when coming on and off the throttle, but gonna do the dogbone mount so hopefully this should tame that slightly, I'd recommend it to anyone!!!!!

Can't wait for my clutch to pack in so i can do this mod. Shouldn't be to long as reverse is getting a bit hit and miss to engage. I've been told this is one of the sign the clutch is about shot. Bet it goes around Christmas time just would be about right with my car.

Thanks Bodge, it really was a big help, and literally read the part number to the sales people over the phone.

I looked into the kits from ECP and was very tempted due to the price and knowing that if it went wrong I could take it back, but tbh though that with all the people on here that have done it sucessfully with the same parts, that was the route id go down. Its good to hear positive feedback about the kit though as its definately another option.!

I already have a powerflex dogbone mount on mine (and it has to be the best £17 ive ever spent!) which may be why im not getting any judder?

Dont the Powerflex Dogbone mounts produce lots of vibration at idle?

Well since doing rob's I've noticed how bad my DMF is and now slipping between 3-3.5k revs so will now be doing mine as well.

The dog bone mount makes the engine to car feedback soooo much better, you do get a bit of vibration on tick over but well worth it.

Defo the best mod I've done followed by the upper strut brace.

hi pepps.. clutch has started to slip now so want to do this conversion... ive sourced a vr6 clutch kit form GSF but where can i get a g60 flywheel?

Check out my thread if you haven't already: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/150787-clutchflywheel-review/page__p__1877641__fromsearch__1entry1877641

I bought my new G60 flywheel from my local Skoda dealership. But you can probably buy it from any VAG (VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda) dealership.

If you don't fancy buying a new one, you can find used ones on ebay or in scrap yards if you hunt about. Just make sure the part number matches the one given in the thread.

ive rang around and TRD motor sport told me that the G60 has the 10 bolt flange not the 6... they told me that the MK3 golf 1.9 tdi or 16v is the onyl one they known to be done.. i have rang Euro car parts and GFS and they cant seem to find anythiing on the part number or on the G60.

TRD also matched your part number above with the 1.9tdi mk3 golf... is that what it is.?

Nope! It's from a Mk2 Golf Rallye (G60 engine)!

Ring up your local VW/Skoda dealership, and ask for a price for part number 028 105 269 BX. Simple.

TRD motorsport are obviously full of ****, because the G60 crankshaft has the same PCD as the 20vT crankshaft. I know because I have a G60 flywheel, and so do thousands of others. ECP and GSF don't sell the G60 flywheel, so they will not be able to help you.

The part number I quoted is a VAG part number, so only works with VAG. If you want a genuine new G60 flywheel you have to buy it from VAG, or someone else that has bought it from them (and normally increased the price a bit). That part number was found by looking up a Golf Rallye on the VW parts database. I don't know what other vehicles use the same part number, but I do know for sure that it is fitted to the G60 engine.

I did a massive amount of research on this and it is all detailed in the thread I showed you, and the original part numbers thread that I link to in the start of that thread. Trust me, that is the correct part number (you can even see the part number label for the flywheel in one of my photos!).
