Ordered my Superb... in Steel Grey, but not sure I've picked the right colour...

Featured Replies

I'm not a huge fan of "bright" silver cars, and my current car is black. I opted for Steel Grey as looking at the pictures and the swatch in the showroom it seemed an ideal compromise... not too bright, but then better than black (which is never clean!). I've ordered the sunset glass too.

The car is an Estate Elegance TDI CR 170 DSG... but having just been to the showroom to let my wife have a look at the Fabia's, I saw what I believed was a Steel Grey twin hatch in the car park... and I didn't like the colour! :'(

Now I'm hoping that the estate will carry the Steel Grey colour far better than the saloon... but I'd be grateful if all you Steel Grey Estate owners could wow me with your photos and convince me that I've chosen the right colour :S

Every colour is ok for the Superb as long as it is black.

Storm or Mocca I think suit it best, Storm with Onyx being favorite, Rosso one is nice also, but I think it's a saloon colour myself.

I've had my Steel Grey 140 DSG saloon for a month now and am really pleased that I ordered this colour (I suppose I would say that wouldn't I) but I've been amazed at the number of people who have been passing and commented " New car - what a lovely colour etc".

I test drove an estate in Steel Grey and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Happy motoring.

Thanks for the pictures, it looks much better than the twin hatch did on the forecourt... perhaps it's because I'm not that keen on the twin hatch... and it was a grey day, which probably didn't help.

Really can't wait to get mine... and I've not even got a build week yet...!!

End of october... so if I ordered mine on the 30th Sept, about 7 weeks after yours, then I'll be getting mine for Christmas...!!

Lucky you! I've given up all my hopes for Christmas although I did order it before you. Somewhat pessimistic maybe but then I will not be surprised when my dealer phones me later on with som "bad" news. A delivery date has not been given and now I'm reading through the conditions very carefully to see if I have something to get there in case of late delivery. Normally this is set to be within 12 weeks from sign on, at least where I live. This will be interesting...

To be honest, I'm probably best expecting it sometime in 2011...!!

I went through the same issues regarding colour and having to wait seven months for my Yeti it gave me lots of time to think of things. And to add options that only became available later. So along with DSG, electric driver's seat and electric folding mirrors I changed my colour from Aqua Blue to Steel Grey. BOTH these colours are very weather dependant. They go blue on a cloudless day and grey on a grey day. So if you saw the car on a (typical British!) day it would look a dullish grey. But in the sun that colour comes alive. Smart choice in my book.

Johann - Thanks for the reassurance... I'm fairly happy that I have made the right choice now, just can't wait for it to arrive. I saw a couple (yes, two) brilliant silver estates in the Newbury dealer the other day, and both looked far too bright.

Phil - Black certainly looks good, while it's clean... My Saab is black and it looks great just after I've cleaned it, but it only ever lasts a day, then it looks grimey! Nice foam bath... could you enlighten me as to which products you used for detailing?

Valet Pro snowfoam, CarLack 68 NSC sealer and Collinite 915 wax. Poorboys wheel seal.

You are right about black, but I've had silver/grey cars for years. Fancied a change.

Enjoy your car. Post some pix when she arrives. Enjoy! You will, you will! Phil emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I've got an Estate in Steel Grey, and with the silver roof rails and trim, it looks brilliant - and it doesn't show the dirt too much, either! And like you, I thought the bright silver was too bright

Fancy uploading a few photos? I need a boost as it's taking soooo long to arrive...!

Agree that Rosso is nice and is a saloon coloutr I was torn in the end between Rosso and Cappaccino for my next car. Current Avensis is black- seemed a good ide when IO ordered it three years ago, but either looks great on day of cleaning, or truly awful.
