VRS rear beam is it special or std

Featured Replies

Ok guys and gals I was thinking of swapping my vrs rear beam as I think it may be bent,(strange tyre wear) is it the same as any other octy or are they different.

I know I have to swap the brakes etc and will be fitting fabia vrs bushes too.

do I need another vrs one or can i use the one off the tdi we are breaking at work?

AFAIK, they're the same..

What strange tyre wear are you seeing?

My TDI wears the rears in a most odd fashion, but given the cost of a new beam I decided it was cheaper to ruin a set of rear tyres every year... :'(

Have you replaced the bearings? Surely a bent or otherwise damaged beam would just kill the inner or outer edge of the tyre? I had some very odd wear on my old tyres caused by worn bearings.

Mine wears the inside edge of the tyre, but seems to do in a clamshell like fashion (like every other tread block). Have fitted new shocks, and problem remained. Bearings don't seem to make any noise, so I was ruling them out of the equation, although I guess I could change them if they were not too expensive.

I had some very odd wear pattern, I had 3 or 4, 4" wide worn stripes at 45deg accross the tyre. Hard to explain, I can try and draw it later if any one is interested.

I think all the rear beams are the same, but not certain.

I've seen some that have like a weight bolted to the centre of them, and I suppose the internal ARB on the standard beams could vary in diameter (yes they do have an internal bar!).

Get the parts guy at your local Skoda garage to do a where used search on the part number for your car, that way you can see what other models it's fitted to.

ahh ok guys it is wearing the inside of the nsr tyre pretty badly and the nsr wheel just does not look right in the arch.. the kitcat test shows a differance of about 5mm between the sill and the tyre too.

vagcat shows 2 different rear beams with 19 + 22 mm roll bars so i will try and find out which are fitted to what and fit the 22mm one anyway along with fabia vrs bushes etc

My rear tyres are also wearing like that. I have new shocks ready to fit (today hopefully) and also new rear beam bushes.

I have seen a garage jack my car on that beam once - right where the "do not jack" sticker is. :(

I was wondering about the beam bushes as a possible fix...... I have 4 new tyres waiting to be put on, so if I was going to do the bushes I had better crack on......
