Clutch whine

Featured Replies

Hi

Need some help diagnosing a problem with the clutch on my 06 Octavia 2.0 TDi. When I release the clutch to pull away it makes a whine sound for a second whilst the car is under load. This only happens in first gear and doesn't matter if the car is cold or warm. It's been like this since I have owned the car (1 year) and has not got any worse or any better, clutch pedal feels fine and the car performs as it should do.

Does anyone have any ideas, would be appreciated?

Does it make a noise when idling?

Hi

No it doesn't, only when the clutch is depressed when pulling away in first gear, only for a second whilst the clutch is underload to get the car moving.

I've been scouring the internet and found a member on the mini forum who has the same problem with a 53 plate mini cooper s. The problem seems to be with the clutch/flywheel which is a dual mass on the mini cooper s. Now forgive me if I'm wrong but I think the Octavia TDi is a dual mass flywheel. After reading the mini forum it seems to be caused by a poor allignment between the flywheel and clutch. I'll probably just live with it and once the clutch eventually goes replace the flywheel with a new clutch, as long as the flywheel doesn't give up before and take with it other things like starter motor, slave cylinder etc. I know my brother's Mondeo suffered the dreaded dual mass flywheel catastrophe and ruined his clutch and starter motor, cost him a fortune to put right.

This is why I asked about the noise at idling, I had some noise and had to replace the flywheel, however I have the DSG so it is not the clutch but it has improved the DSG changes so is still connected, the Flywheel I had was not loose like most of them but had iregular wear around the edge.
