Cannot change service interval

Featured Replies

 Car has just had a service and I asked for it to be put on variable servicing, so I checked the (non maxidot) display and it shows the spanner and --- so what does that mean ? I then plugged in VCDS and it said it uses something like UDL and could not 'talk' to the module/display. Anybody else had any problems ? cheers - Stuart

Are you using a Ross-Tech interface or Chinese / eBay cable.

Showing --- is a good sign. The ecu needs 500 miles or so to calculate for a variable service.

PS Should VCDS 'talk' to the service reset UDL ?

Which version of VCDS? What model year? And I think it was probably UDS - a new protocol that VAG cars have been using since 2008. If this is a 2010 or 2011 model, we may still be catching up but you should run Version 10.6 for the best coverage on the newest cars. Remember, updates are free.

 Hi Bruce, Its the latest version of VCDS 10.6.1 and the interface is only 6 months old, Its my Octavia Scout 2009 2ltr TDi, that sounds about right with UDS, 10.6.1 did an update on the interface the other week so its all the latest stuff, I realise that VAG group change things all the time and there would then be a delay in you updating the software so thanks for chasing them. I presume 'other' service reset machines have the same problems ? cheers - Stuart

ps- have you stopped the beta versions ?

I can't speak to others a whole lot. Up until earlier this year, the UDS based control modules were only supported by the factory tool and VCDS. Now, I believe other tools have some support. I will ask our tech guys about your platform and specifically about the SRI functions. We may need some info from your car. If so, I will PM you to request it.

No, we have not stopped Beta versions. We simply have not released a Beta since June when we released 10.6.0. Development continues and when there are enough changes that a Beta test is warranted, we'll release a new Beta. Remember that first we design the software, then we do Alpha testing with a select few, when that proves to be solid, we release a Beta for the rest of the world to try. When the Beta has undergone several months of evaluation, a new official release is made. So, at present we are working on a number of new things which I am not at liberty to discuss. :( But rest assured, nothing has changed in our process. When we have something significant to offer, we will release it.

 Thanks Bruce, don't know if the PM's are working as somebody sent something through the other day and I recieved nothing, I presume you would want a new scan of the car or would I concentrate on a perticular module ? cheers - Stuart

Which function are you using in VCDS to look at the service data, are you using the SRI Reset function or the select control module. On the FL the SRI Reset doesn't work and you have to go into the instrument cluster controller and look at the long coding via the coding helper.

BTW If your service display is showing - - - - - this means that it is on variable and this is perfectly normal after a service as the computer hasn't got enough data yet to decide when the next service is needed. Once you've done a couple of thousand miles it will start showing something in here.

Stuart, my apology. I got distracted by other things here and did not follow-up with the tech guys. My bad. I did not send a PM. :'( Thanks for the reminder.

Mike, I think you are spot on here but I am still going to ask the tech guys to comment. If memory serves, on UDS clusters, you have to perform the reset manually using coding. Somewhere I believe we have the procedure. That was part of what I needed to find for Stuart.

I also was wondering if the tech guys know Stuart's cluster and whether they need map files from it. So, I will follow up and either Sebastian or I will post later.

Stuart, the tech guys are asking that you post an autoscan here so they can see the part numbers of the modules in the car. Could you do that for us please?

Post it here please. Thanks

 Hi Bruce, I cannot find how I load the screen from VCDS onto a post, it asks for a web link ? shall I send it to you as a PM if its working ? cheers - Stuart

Hi,

I don't know if Bruce has received the scan. You can use Copy and Paste the text from the scan here if needed, or send it to us via email. Contact Page
