standard clutch torque limit?

Featured Replies

hey guys, considering a remap, just wondering on what would be safe for the standard clutch and flywheel? is there a set torque boundary which it cant handle? also have seen factory mapped fabias, 170bhp/300lbs, would it be possible to go to a dealer and get this done?

edit, also anyone in northern ireland reading this with a remap have any good words to say about any mappers?

I believe oem spec is 300 lb/ft, but many people with "mere" stage 1 remaps have got them slipping fast, Much comes down to driving style though, not just part strength, with regard to failures.

standard clutches can go at standard power. there not the best

im told 300ft-lb is the limit my car is running just over that and the car is on 157k miles i can boot it but i do get slip in 6th if i floor it but every other gear is fine just treat it with respect

Booting it in 5th, 6th on the m'way becomes addictive and that's what slips/breaks the clutch. Especially if it's hilly too. Shouldn't be too much of an issue if one drives un-lazily on fast roads. Personally, I'd say 270lbft is reasonable.

i always be careful when puting power down to make sure im around the 2500rpm range, i do try to look after it as it is, never holding it on the clutch, use the handbreak like a fag lol when yous say about booting in 5th and 6th should i avoid that even if im over 25000 rpm? thanks, im thinking 170bh and 280 lbs? whats the difference between a custom map and a generic map?

thanks again

310lb/ft with 99k on the clock slips abit in 6th and I guess it could do with being changed at some stage. I've done a few santa pod strips and track day in mine over the years I've had it
