How often do you check your oil level, should be at least once a week. If you have just added 3/4 of a Lt. sounds like it has not been checked since your service. If you check it weekly you have a problem.

Careful how you check your oil!!

Car MUST be on perfectly level surface.

Car engine MUST be warm.

Car engine MUST have been stood for AT LEAST 5 mins.

Dipstick should be removed, wiped and then dipped.

Its easy to get a false reading, and then go and overfill.....

only had the car since june, it was serviced in march, last time i checked the oil was a of month ago, i normally check everything at the start of every month ! even so is 3/4 of a Lt normal for about 6k mileage ?

done all these..... it does'nt help that the dipstick is black though !

My more humble car gets through about 1 litre between services as did my Passat PD. Check levels every week or so and don't wait 6k. And the black dipstick with black oil is a PITA.

3/4 Litre in 6K miles is a good oil consumption figure, but how do know that it hasn't been topped-up before ( after the service) ?

No worries !

have a look at the manual, im sure it states that you can use up to 1ltr per 1000km!!!!!! Mines a petrol and does use a lot of oil.......i've had it checked twice and there is nothing wrong with the engine its done nearly 50,000 miles and (touch wood) has been sweeeeeeeeeet! i do check every week though and follow the steps listed above.

My FL 1.8TSI has done about 14k miles since new last December and has used about 1ltr of oil in that time. I noticed the oil was quite low once around 5k, topped it up, and its been pretty solid since. I consider that to be pretty low consumption. I don't hammer it around though (esp. when cold).
