more powerful engine as in MK6 Golf

Featured Replies

Good point, and if you do want to make your octy that bit faster - get a remap. Mine is a mile quicker than standard MK6, totally kitted out and I'm still better off than the person who buys the VW :giggle: and in my eyes, a better all-round car

+1  remap is a new lease of life and can totally believe its around 250/260 bhp with it.

I'll let you know tomorrow as I'm going to a rolling road day :D

I'll be happy with 250 bhp, car is always ran on v-power :)

And (of course) you can't get a Golf GTi Estate!

I think that's a powerful USP for the Octavia

remap poll Dyno graph thread

I might be being a tad controversial here but I was always led to believe that there's no point getting an extra 50hp here, an extra 100hp there, if you're not up to the job as a driver and can't exploit it. Surely getting advanced driver training is more beneficial than extra horsepower. It's why Michael Schumacher could kick any one of our asses in a Ford Focus 1.6. Well, maybe in his heyday. Extra horsepower is best left for bragging rights in the pub.

Agree in that Michael Schumacher is a better driver than all of us on here (unless the legend senna is alive and driving a vRS), but eg a 200bhp car with an extra 50bhp here will transform a quick car into a very very quick car and a 100bhp there will turn it into an animal, but neither of these cars are going to be undrivable and you will soon get used to the increase in power and be able to handle it well. Its the fact that people dont just stick 100bhp more in their engine, they improve the brakes, suspension etc. to suit. I dont ever want to buy a perfect car because i would be bored as couldnt make it better. Its an nice sense of acheivement.

Racing drivers have grown up getting to the limits of every car they have and are a different breed. We just (well i do) like going out in a car that is great to drive and also nice to sometimes scare cars that cost 3 times as much (watching the smile disappear is priceless). As for advanced road driver training (ive tried it) and its a load of rubbish if you ask me, money would be much better spend going to a track day and learning the racing lines if your confident (follow someone who does if you aint) or get and instructor to show you them.

For what its worth I don't think 200bhp is that difficult for an average experienced driver to manage, and I don't think a remap would require Schumacher to drive.

I wouldn't say my VRS is slow, but I can see all of its performance (in terms of acceleration) being used.

It occurs me to me that the Octy VRS engine is in a fairly low state of tune compared to the new Fabia VRS 1.4 or the Fiat/Alfa Multiair and other new "downsized" turbo engines.

If the Octy VRS had the same specific output as those it would be putting 240bhp approx. Funnily enough thats about what the just announced new Ford 2.0 in the Mondeo produces

Amazing to think that 100bhp/litre is now quite humdrum.
