more powerful engine as in MK6 Golf

Featured Replies

Been looking to trade my 07 vrs in but holding out till i hear when we will be getting the new verson as in the golf gti MK6. Many tests on the golf have shown it producing close to 250 hp, anyone have any idea when the vrs might get this engine?

I can not see the VRS getting this engine anytime soon due to keeping the brands within the VAG group separated.

i traded my 07 vrs for a leon cupra, 240bhp standard, 380bhp with a few mods, no contest..................

The current vRS Tsi engine is the same as the one in the GTi, it's just that the Golf engine has been tuned to 10 hp more. They are boh the CCZA engines.

Very little difference in performance and power if you ask me. The Golf R on the other hand....

All magazine road tests show the MK6 gti a whole second quicker to 60 and matching the focus st all the way. When they have measured the output on a rolling road the engine produces close to 250 hp. Now i know the facelifted vrs doesnt come close to this.

Aye, unfortunately, this is going on elsewhere in the model range. Isn't the new A1 1.4 tsfi producing a few more bhp than the same unit in the Fabia mkII vRS? There's nothing more obvious than this practice that shows that Skoda is the runt of the litter.

I spend far too much money on car mags and I don't recall a test saying that.

From Top Gear on the Mk VI "So total power output is now 207bhp, taking the GTI to 62mph in 7.2 seconds and on to 148mph, figures that are almost identical to the old car"

(almost exactly VRS figures). Granted I've seen GTis tested with 0-60s a few tenths faster than that but that applies to both Mk Vs abd VIs.

The only Golfs I've read about with 250+ bhp are either the Golf R or a remapped GTI, not a factory standard one. Would be interested in knowing which magazines have reported this performance.

I test drove (30 mins each) a GTI and GTD (Mk 6) before buying the vRS and neither felt quicker than the Octavia counterparts. A bit more nimble, but not faster.

my recollection, the gti is high sixes to 60, vrs low sevens - its only a few tenths different.

both have the same engine - as has already been said the gti just runs a different map giving additional 10bhp purely down to brand positioning/ marketing requirements.

I have read of several dyno test on standard cars - they all appeared to put out the factory quoted ouputs or very close.

A standard MK6 GTi will not produce 250bhp - a MK5 ED30 might get close, as mentioned a Leon Cupra too as they run KO4 turbos. I think Skoda will wait til the next Octavia before we see a VRsR with 240bhp

I personally wouldn’t hold off buying a VRS just for the fact you know the golf is quicker, the VRS will cost you less to buy than a golf, so simply get the brakes and suspension up-rated a stage one remap and the problem is sorted and you’ll still be better of in the pocket department...

A nieghbour of mine has got a new Golf Gti. (petrol) Performance is only a bit better than my Octy PD vRS, but i have two more doors !!!

Went to the Golf website & 'built' a Golf Gti to the same spec as my Octy. Dunno if VW are offering discounts from the RRP, but the Octy comes out approx £6k cheaper + once i get the torque up I'd leave him standing on the steep bits

i have seen several standard Edf30s, cupras, vRS TFSI and TSI, GTI TFSI and TSI all put out standard figures.

@ the OP, if you were to remap the vRS and GTI, you would get the exact same output. identical engines and ecu, just slightly different settings on the standard map and thats it

I don't see the need for this 0-60 stuff.

Nowadays all that you're likely get is a £60 ticket & 3 points for going off like a loony. emoticon-0120-doh.gif

Don't be silly. Vitally important. What else would we have to talk about on here otherwise?

I wouldn't wait too long for the petrol vRS, as German carmagazines state that the O3 would have a maximum of 160 bhp on a simplified chassis of the Golf VII...

That kind of suggests there won't be an Octavia 3 VRS, (or are they saying it won't be immediately available, that was the way with previous iterations I think)

Certianly with the Mk2 where the VRS was about 1 year delayed from the start of the other models. Also look at the Fabia and how long it has been to get the VRS version of this to the market.

A point well made.

2010 MK VI Golf GTi performance figures 6.9 secs 0-62mph, top speed 149mph, 210bhp.

2010 Octavia 2 FL VRs perfromance figures, 7.2 secs 0-62mph, top speed 150mph, 200bhp.

Figures taken from adverts for vehicles on Autotrader today.

As we know autotrader use manufacturer's data for their advertisements.

Is it not true that the 260bhp Golf R has a tuned version of the "old" GTi engine....

the ed30, GTI pirelli, cupra r, scirroco r, golf r, cupra and s3 all have the same engine and ECU , albeit in different states of tune. they all tune to identical powers and have fully interchangable parts.

the S3, golf R and Cupra R all have an uprated intercooler though, which is a straightswap into all others.

These k04 engines have a bigger turbo, different injectors, and a relocated DV and a different compression ratiop to the k03 TFSI. otherwise they are identical and all parts are as beofre completely interchangable

and bare in mind the FL Octy is now a "TSI" not a "TFSI"

Said before but there is no way that a standard Golf 6 GTI produces 250bhp. Skoda can sell enough cars as it is without dumping the 260bhp engine in the Octavia, so why would they bother? It would just highlight the fact that you can have a bigger better equipped car that is equally as fast for thousands less, and VW are quite keen to emphasize that Skoda is the 'entry-level' way in to the group. Why do you think that Skoda isn't allowed damped grab handles in lots of its cars? Reduced perceived quality to help justify the higher VW costs.

Good point, and if you do want to make your octy that bit faster - get a remap. Mine is a mile quicker than standard MK6, totally kitted out and I'm still better off than the person who buys the VW :giggle: and in my eyes, a better all-round car
