Get the car. I will degrade more sitting not getting used than from a bit of muck on the road. I think the mainland UK reg system is stupid. In N.Ireland we do not have a date related reg system (is area related), so cars are advertised by year, so getting your car now over here would make no difference. It also avoids the sort of rush that you used to get once a year and now twice a year in the rest of the UK.

Get it now.... with two changes a year now - does anyone care about the plates?

take it now and enjoy it!!

On the note of where dealers keep the new cars until they are sold/PDi. I've seen some real nasty places where they leave the cars, most can be accessed by anyone at any given time and are easy for little rat bads to go around breaking things. Ok the dealer will put it right but do you really want a damaged new car (other than the normal damage it could get in transit)

Wait.. Wait.. Wait.. be patient. 54 plates will be even more discounted come March! There are plenty of Skodas around - and there are plenty of dealers willing to take your money. It's what they are in the job to do. Don't be so fickle as to think the car you have seen is a must have. You will get an even better deal if you wait around for a few weeks, don't limit yourself to a single dealer either. Shop around. Tell them you went to another dealer and they offered you X and Y for the price of a car you've seen on their forecourt. Also, tell them you went to another dealer and they offered you X, Y and Z for a little bit less or a little bit more. Make them compete for your money - get the best deal you can.

Regards,

I feel your pain. I ordered my Octavia Vrs on 22 Oct, and I've been told second week in Jan.

get it now

Thank you all for your polling and comments. It is obvious you all love your Furbies and I am looking forward to lovin mine soon too. However SWMBO had put the kaibosch on getting the car early - we are jointly paying for it and she cant raise the requisite cash before end of Feb. So its going to be a hard 7 week wait :(

BTW, I've been looking at private plates and there are a few beauties about:

MY54 VRS

MY05 VRS

SK05 DAY (a personal favourite!)

All in the 500 - 800 quid range.....

Hi SkodaTDI,

I think you mis-understood - I had already ordered the car back in November and was originally told March delivery on a nice 05 plate. This is what I planned for. However this week the dealer phoned to say it was with him and I could have it within 2 weeks.

Mind you, even though the deal is set it might be worth asking if he could do a further discount for me to take it early if his figures are low for Jan/Feb....
