Ok here's the problem:

Ordered my vRS on November 17th. Told March 2005 delivery in time for the new plate (05). Been waiting patiently since. Phone call today from the dealer to be told "the Eagle has landed". Yep, the car is sitting outside his office!

Now, it's still covered in the delivery wax and has yet to have the parking sensors fitted, but if I want it I can have it in approx 10 days. Can I wait the requisite 7 1/2 weeks till March 1st or not?

Here's how I see taking delivery now:

Pros

  • Get to drive it ASAP
  • The wait is over
  • Dont have to think about car at the dealers

Cons

  • Get a 54 plate rather than the 'new' reg
  • Have to drive it around whilst there's still all the salt/muck on the roads

What are your opinions??

Get car

Drive

Enjoy

Simple, innit? :D:D:D:D:D

It's still early enough to be worth getting it!!

If you leave it much later it'll not be worth it though.

You might be in a position to squeaze a bit more out of the dealer if he wants it regged in time for a volume bonus.

I'm sure the dealer can only hold it for a couple of weeks before it has to be paid for i.e. he pays or you do. so I don't know if he'll hold onto it until March?

Had a similar situation with Wendys Octy, decided to go for it early but put a personalised reg on it so we wouldnt feel too bad a few weeks later, we would have only had to wait 3 weeks so If I were in your shoes its no contest, get it & let the fun Begin.

You will also probably getter better attention from the dealer now rather than in the March rush

Get it now, enjoy it now, private plate

Hang on! Nov 17th! ordered mine from dealers on Oct 27th for delivery about now still no word

I would definitely get now, March is a long way away knowing your car is sat at the dealers ready! enjoy it now! I too have a private plate that will be going on the car after a few months, no-one will ever know ;)

Forget about the plate, just think what your car might be sat in whilst you what till March.

Get it now and enjoy it.

I ordered my Octavia vRS in August and it only reached the dealer yesterday!!!!

That's a four month wait - possibly though because I ordered xenons.

I'm not even waiting for them to deliver it - I'm off down there to pick it up in person ( Only 130 miles it will give it a good run back  )

Why wait? Go for it and have fun!

March is weeks away! Personally I can't see why you would want to leave it at the dealers, and I bet he could sell it right now. If I remember correctly the Fabia has a 10-year perforation warranty on the body so 3 or 4 weeks of salty roads should make no difference.

Someone will put me right here, but I seem to think that if you have the car registered between the 1st and 15th of the month, then you only end up with an 11 month tax disk. If you register it between the 16th and the end of the month then you end up with a 12 month tax disk (I may be wrong here, apologies if I am). So, what you should do is tell the dealer to prepare it for collection on Monday 17th January 2005, you have waited long enough!

Go, go, go!

Oh er that is a long time. Well my dealer knows the car I'm part-exing's mot and tax runs out in March, and trade in price has been fixed so I was not too worried, maybe i should be.

I take it having xenons as an option was not an official reason for the delay :) was any reason given?

I've been waiting 8mnths for delivery of civic type r, so have nicked the boyfriends Octavia RS in the meantim to get used to some power (had 2.0 hdi dturbo 206). My advice would be to get your car now! I have a private plate but your car would be a 05 '54' reg and when the time comes you could sell it as such!

At least you ordered from a garage! I ordered via the internet and after getting a lawyer have now cancelled (yeah - you did read that right!) Have now ordered from Main dealer and picking up next week-end with

Get the car now.

I'd be surprised if the dealer will be happy to store it inside, they usually want them out ASAP so at best it'll be stashed "round the back", and will end up getting wet / dirty anyway.

As for the Octy RS wait times, i was quoted 12 weeks for a car with ANY options when i got mine in March 03. So i went for one without and got it in less than a week.

It's 2 numbers on a little plate front and back does it matter? Car is still a 2005 car having been registered Jan 2005, so it doesn't essentially matter. Reg syste, we've got it so silly, far prefer the Swiss or Irish one TBH

Salt/road muck can be cleaned

Agree with flyingscot.registrations mean nothing anymore with 2 changes a year.i would want the car as soon as it fell off the trailer!all these delivery times seem amazing to me.we asked for a black one (furby) and got it in weeks(did turn black one down with esp for extra

How about a private plate something like J 554 ABC, re spaced to read J5 54 ABC, Instead of ABC use your initials, then 2 new cars in a couple of months !!

If it was me I would take delivery as soon as possible, wouldn't want my new car standing for that amount of time, will prob do it more harm than being used.

Got the car now...I was in similar position myself 02 reg plate first registered 1 feb 03....get it and ENJOY it

its only numbers, and theres a certain amount of sneaky chuckles to be had..only YOU know its really an 05 car

Cos you can't have that, toat would get you pulled and probably prosecuted as misleading in an accident it would be easy to read that as JS54 ABC instead of the real number.

Is it just me or are the lead times for new Skodas getting ridiculously long? The longest I ever had to wait before was 4 weeks for my Octy RS, but now I've been quoted 8 weeks and it seems others are having to wait even longer...

I'd get the car now, BTW :)

Is the car going going to be any different in March (apart from being 05 and not 54)

As has been said before, get it, drive it, enjoy it!

I know i would :fro: And did funnily enough

It would depend on what the current car you have to drive is if I were in your position.
