heated mirrors

Featured Replies

hi there i recently bought a mk11 octavia elagance. my question is ths on the drivers door when you demist the back window should the mirror demist light come on or change colour also when i ajust the left mirror therre is no prob but when i do the right both mirrors move is this norm :mmm: any help would be apreciated regards michael

One of the less well thought out features I am afraid.

The heated mirror function seems like a complete afterthought, The control is entirely independent of the heated rear screen and all too easy to just leave on.

The setting of both mirrors at the same time is optional. I am sure someone else will inform how to do it, I don't bother, cant see the purpose of it.

The mirror demist is activated by turning the adjustment switch around to face forward (there is no light on the switch to change colour or come on).

The mirrors dipping together is a feature and needs to be turned off if you want to change each mirror independantly. This I believe can be done in maxidot or VCDS.

There's no indication for when the heated mirrors are on and it operates separately from the rear window

If you have Maxidot, there is an option under setup > convenience to set the mirrors to sync or separate.

em this might sound silly but what is maxidot ????

Maxidot is an uprated display between the dials. This gives you more information and more control compared to the standard LCD screen.

on my car i have the normal mpg trip but if you hold the button in you get a options screen for display audio and other things is this what you mean ????

Sounds like you have maxidot. If you have a menu for audio settings and also can get things like service schedule data etc. then you have maxidot. What you need to go into is the settings section and look in the convienence section of this. You should then be able to set the mirrors to move independently of each other.

na dont have maxidot then DOH cant find service details how else can you change the mirrors as it anoys me both o them moving . could my garage do it buy pluging there computer in to it ????

I am pretty sure you have maxidot. When you open a door do you get a picture of your car with the open door indicated on the screen? If so then you definately have maxidot and it is just you have not found the service info.

yes i do . so how do you get in to all these secret options i can get to whar it says winter tyres clock and stuff but cant see nowt about service or mirrors

The mirrors are found in the convience section (should be in the same menu as the winter tyres etc.). The service info I think can be found either in the same place but can not remember the heading. I will have a look on my maxidot tomorrow and post the answer then if someone else does not beat me too it.

I too am frustrated by the heated mirrors. With every car I have had previously, they come on with the heated rear screen, but as others have observed it is a separate switch function in the Octavia. I find it hard to tell whether they are on, and they are slow to work. Is the knob meant to 'spring' away from the on position when you twiddle it?

mine springs away it seems a very silly way to get them working especaly when the rest o the car is so good

Is there any problem with leaving the switch permanently in the heating position?

That way they are always on (when air temperature <20degC).

From the manual:

Adjust both left and right mirrors simultaneously with the rotary knob in the "L" position.

Turn the rotary knob to "R" and adjust the right mirror only.

Page 73.

OK, just been out to check. The manual is wrong! "R" does both, "L" does nearside (left) only.

I guess that might be OK but the heat might eventually affect the mirror adhesive or something daft like that. Not worth worrying about, just daft design.

The feature of adjusting both mirrors at the same time I believe is designed so that if someone else gets into the car & sits in a different position they can quickly adjust both mirrors at the same time to get them about right, ideal for gargages & fleet companies where the employee may only need to drive the car once, agreed it can be a pain until you get used to it.

Not sure its been mentioned but on some cars if you leave the mirror in the L position the nearside mirror dips when you select reverse to try & show the kerb etc. On our Scout if you have to move forward again a short distance it will stay dipped whilst you complete the manouvre. It only comes back up if you move a reosnable amount forward (not sure if its triggered by distance or speed as you move forward) or if you switch off the Ignition

I think you can only get into the Set-up Menu in maxidot if the engine is running but the car is not moving.

I like the mirror heater being independant of other heating - there are plenty of times when I want the mirror demisted, or get rid of raindrops, without turning on the rear screen etc

Just realised I've had the heated mirrors on for days......

No you did not, it has a timer like the rear window defroster.

Actually the timer on the side mirrors are like 20min

I have changed both, side and rear, to turn off in about 5/6min

Yes ok every time you turn key they come on

No wonder I never got them to work.. Why would you ship a car with heated mirrors to the tropics? emoticon-0114-dull.gif

The mirror setting can be found in the Settings menu under the Convience options and mirror sync.

For the service detail it is in the settings menu and right at the bottom (have to scroll down as not shown on the 1st oage) and under service detail.
