I can't view the link, but do you really think that they had electronics in 1936? Thermionic valves sure, but true electronics didn't come along until the 1960s (and the Ferguson Formula 4wd and Dunlop Maxaret anti-lock were purely mechanical systems).

Electronics? The car doesn't even have hydraulic brakes! It shows a cable system applying the brake to 1 wheel as the steering wheel is turned!

Since ESP will apply anywhere between 1 and all 4 brakes and/or reduce or cut the throttle in a bid to stop the car skidding, and a purely mechanical system like you describe could conceivably lock a a wheel and actually cause a skid...
