all wheels will fit on a fabia if it's pcd of 5x100, spigot 57 but u need to check width and offset and depends if the vehicle is lowered or not. as standard they are 15x6 with 43 offset, 16x 6.5 with 42 offfset i think, or 17x7 dont know offset.

All official tyre and rim sizes can be found in the Skoda Germany Tyre Guide My link

thanks, very useful but the 17" wheel is not listed. I know the fabia II vrs is new but the 17" wheel has been available on the roomster as a fn optional upgrade for some time.

Engine code.

First column on the left are the engine codes:

TSI 85 for example is CBZA and the 105 is CBZB. This can be found in various places such as the black data panel on the drivers door pillar, in the service book on the data and option code sticker.

The next column are the model codes but these will only apply to Germany.

so what is the engine code for the 1.2 70bhp

Not sure which ones apply to the HTP 70, however you will notice just about ever engine code changed with the introduction of the FL. This indicates that even the engines that appear to have been carried over such as the HTP have been revised/updated.

My lad's early production Furby I HTP 54 has an engine code of AWY and I believe this three letter coding has been used on subsequent revisions right up to the FL. Now switched to a 4 letter code in line with most of the other VAG motors.

Have a look for a similar plate to that above and it should list the engine code; in this example it's the letters CBDB.

The vRS wheels are a direct fit for any of the Fab models, the Sport will be coming out with 17" wheels of a different design.

vRS alloys on mine

Good stuff Plumber & others. I'm actually looking to downsize.

I bought a Fabia Elegance Estate 105bhp Tdi in July, to replace my 8 year old 1.9 Tdi. What a difference!

The new car is fitted with Dunlop Sport Maxx 205/45/R16 83W (168mph rated tyes) which give an appallingly harsh, jittery & noisy ride. This is the only wheel/tyre size available on the Elegance, although the identical car with an SE trim, is supplied with 195/55 R15 85H as standard, but with the option to "upgrade" to 205/45/R16.

On recommendation by two local tyre factors, smaller rims & higher profile tyres would considerably improve the ride & would fit in the wheel arches. However, to avoid any potential issues with warranty or insurance, I contacted Skoda UK four times, for approval to downsize the wheels & tyres to the 15 inch SE size, but ran into a brick wall. They won't approve any downsize.

According to Skoda Customer Services, the Elegance has a different rear spring to the SE

"to counteract the higher level of gravitational forces caused by the increased weight of the vehicle. The wheel and tyre combination chosen for this level of trim combine to keep as high a level of traction and road-holding as in the other levels of trim on the Fabia range. The suspension set-up prevents squatting or bucking when accelerating and braking. This provides a smoother transition and helps to reinforce the elegance name."

Something strange here. According to the Skoda brochure, the SE & Elegance have the same Kerb weight, Total weight & Payload - namely 1239kg, 1694kg & 455kg. Additionally, the weight of the 16 inch wheel/tyre at 19kg is only 1.6kg more than the 15 inch SE combo - hardly significant.

Makes you feel sorry for the SE owners squatting about on their 15 inch wheels!

Of course the full size spare is 195/55/R15 85H, but can only be used in an emergency, according to SUK - SE owners beware!

Have checked my V5c Registration details for Type/Variant/Version & approval number, against the German Skoda Database referred to by Plumber. It shows the following wheels/tyres as approved for my car:-

185/55 R15 85H & M+S spec tyres - rims 6J x 15 H2 offset 43

185/60 R15 85H - rims 6J x 15 H2 offset 43

195/55 R15 85H - rims 6J x 15 H2 offset 43

205/45 R16 83H - rims 6.5J x 16 H2 offset 43

I have had a high regard for the Skoda brand until now, but feel that Skoda UK have dropped the ball on this occasion. Especially as one of the SUK Customer Service Agents admitted on the telephone, that they had received a significant number of complaints from Elegance owners regarding the harsh ride.

There is a another thread , where an Elegance owner, couldn't live with the ride & sold his car after a few weeks at a considerable loss. Not an option for me I'm afraid.

Any suggestions (polite please), where I go from here - write to Skoda Home Office?

The reason I guess is type approval, I say if you want to change them then go ahead. Keep the original wheels for when you sell it or sell them to fund the 15s im sure you find a buyer.

I very much doubt SEAT approve of 18" wheels on my Ibiza, didnt stop me though.

I'm afraid SUK no very little about their product from experience so far; advised me to speak to Kwik-Fit for advice on winter tyres. I think what they have told you should be taken with a 'pinch of salt'. According to both the handbook and Skoda Germany it is quite acceptable to run 185/55 winter tyres on 15" rims; therefore it must also be the same for 195/55 emoticon-0144-nod.gif

SUK appear to have a fetish for 'bling' alloys I assume to look the part in the Milton Keynes car park emoticon-0136-giggle.gif My Yeti comes with impractical 17" alloys; all other countries fit 16" to their SE equivalent.

Have tried myself seeking advice from Skoda directly but unfortunately they always refer you back to SUK even though I told them they don't know anything about cars emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

TP

Rolling radius would be different between 195/55 and 185/55 though, maybe 195 is just a bit bigger.

Did they say what the difference is between the suspension on the elegance and se?

If they are the different then why can skoda fit both the 15 or 16inch wheels on an se but only the 16's on an elegance, strange.

It's down how they choose to market them. My elegance has a 15" spare and I'm planning 185/55R15 winter boots as well. The only difference that may have affected things is the size of the brakes on the TSI 105 , they are the same size as the vRS but the 15s just about clear them.

My elegance came with 16" as standard - but as you can tell from the pics the Elegance brakes are TINY!!!!

Think my old 205 GT had bigger brakes!

Sorry quick post reply was too quick. I meant to say this:-

Well I'm sort of glad it's not just me who has a problem with Skoda UK.

As a factory order, the SE can have either 15 or 16 inch wheels, but the Elegance only 16 inch. According to my dealer, the part number of the rear spring is the only difference between the trim levels.

I specifically asked SUK, whether the Elegance spring was longer, shorter, stiffer or softer than the SE, or if it was in fact a VRS spec spring. They didn't reply other than to just say say no to a down size to 15 inch, with the waffle & weasel words quoted in my original post above.

In the interest of safety, I also asked them for their recommendations for winter wheel & tyre sizes for the Elegance. They completely ignored this. I suspect because this would have had to include 15 inch tyres, which they were insisting could not be fitted!

At least "Plumber" was told to talk to KwikFit!

Based on the approved size of tyres on the German website (minimum load/speed rating 83H), and using the appropriate rim (6Jx15 H2 offset 43 with a PCD 5x100 & hub centre bore 57.1), any of these 15 inch setups below should work, & fit in the existing wheel arches, without fouling. Their rolling radius & speedo variations are within the 2.5% limit recommended by tyre suppliers.

185/55, 185/60, 195/55

The 185/60/R15 looks a good choice for improved cushioning with a sidewall height increase of 1.87cm over the current 16 inchers, & is the cheapest basket of tyre prices. However noise, wear, grip, handling & sidewall stiffness also need consideration.

Any recommendations of tyre brand & model, which worked for you, would be helpful thanks. I’m looking for comfort, low noise & acceptable wet grip.
