Cannot fill fuel tank

Featured Replies

I am sure this has cropped up before but I am unable to find it using the search - anyway:

Filled (or attempted to fill) the tank last night but could only get £37 quid in from empty, I usualy get about 40 litres in then use the venting nipple for another 10 litres.

The vent would not release any air but the tank was not full anyway.

Any ideas?

Dodgy pump?

or dodgy filler - have is stuffed my filler by venting every fill-up?

Or something else?

Cheers

£37 ???? i can get near enough £57 in there is either something wrong or your filling up with some fuel that is 0.80p per litre

Hence my question - I got about 31 litres in..... instead of 50 odd.

Pump would not allow any more in and the vent nipple would not vent anything - is that because the tank was not full? If so, is it most likely a pump issue?

Or are there any known problems with the filler neck system?

Cheers

Could have been an oversensitive safety valve on the forecourt diesel pump.

We had our own diesel tank at my last firm for filling up all the vans.

That had an oversensitive shut off and you had to trickle the diesel in

or it would click and stop.

Tried filling it up a bit more elsewhere?

Could have been an oversensitive safety valve on the forecourt diesel pump.

+1

good point i would try another forecourt and see what happens

Cheers chaps - Yes will try another station, wasn't my usual one last night anyway. I did try and trickle it in though and it would do a damned thing.

I have had issues with other cars having sensitive fillers, and with sensitive pumps. Not experienced it to this level before.....

I will have to try soon anyway, if it is a fault with the car i will have to get it sorted whilst it has fuel in the tank :giggle:

It was a good 8-10 litres short of the basic tank being full, let alone the ventectomy level. There should be room for another 18-20 litres.
