engine management light on , flap valve short or grounded

Featured Replies

i had the engine management light come on last week,

went to my local friendly mechanic and we put the analyser on the car and it said "flap valve short or grounded"

on close examination of the wiring over the weekend i was slightly shocked to see the following state of the 4 wires going to the flap valve motor

1 wire completely broken off, 1 wire bare for about 6mm and about to break, the other 2 wires the insulation had been worn through for over 20mm ,

it seems to be vibration related and wearing against the hard plastic tube that protects these wire, i noticed the tube was full of oil and fine grit /sand from the road which probably contributed to the damage

i had to cut about 50mm off the loom to get back to good wiring then insert some new wiring to repair the damage, the car is back up and running again, it took me about 2 hours to resolve the problem

i must add my roomy has covered 130k miles

i will post some pic's of the loom showing the damage later

i did have several similar issues on my 1.9tdi octavia over it's 235k miles i owned it
