Prongs in coolant header tank

Featured Replies

I am tackling the famous "Temperature Sensor" warning light glitch.

I have read a lot of previous discussions on this topic.

Apparently the problem is either cause by:

1) Crud on the sensor in the coolant header tank

2) Faulty coolant temp sensor

Some people have mentioned the Prongs in the coolant header tank can be cleaned to fix the problem. That's why I started from there.

Can any one point me out where are the "sensor in the coolant header tank" and where are the "Prongs"?

Is mine coolant header tank the newer type, that I will have to replace the whole tank if it is faulty?

Mine car is a 2004 VRS Fabia.

Cheers

Prongs come directly from the electrical connector at the top. Some header tanks had a design where you could get a tool in there to clean them up, in your case it looks like you need to replace the header tank. Don't worry though it only costs about £10 and is a doddle to replace. Lazy option is to hotwire the connector at the back, but you'll need to keep a keen eye on the coolant level then.

Thanks mate, sorry I am no mechanic and here are some silly questions:

1) Do you mean the prongs are at where "A" is, and that is what I have to clean?

Or are they in "B' which is hidden inside the header tank?

2) If I am going to hotwire the connector at the back, do you mean I should short/join the prongs together at "A"?

3) How easy is it to replace the header tank? Do I have to drop the coolant first? Would you point me out if there is a tutorial somewhere?

Thx!

The sensor only measures the coolant level, the coolant temperature is measured by another sensor in the thermostat. So if the level warning is your problem ----

The "prongs" are at B . You would need very skinny and multijointed fingers to get get them, Just change the bottle. It is easy. Just drain the coolant enough so the level is below the bottle then change it, top up with G12 when finished.

I was under the impression that in the fabia you can't clean them, and need to replace the part.
