My Roomie has arrived!

Featured Replies

Hello,

After using the very helpful advice received here on the Briskoda forums, the Roomster I ordered on the 31st March (!) finally arrived one week ago and, needless to say, we are very pleased with it. It is the 1.6 TDI SE and is my first diesel car. A vast improvement over my ten year old Fabia in so many respects, the main one being consumption of fuel.

The long wait was due to my unwise decision to order a new colour - Miami Blue - which kept getting delayed. I like the colour although it is slightly lighter than I imagined.

Extras I went for were roof rails, tyre pressure monitor, spare wheel, third head rest in the back and, an extravagance that I think was worth it, an MDI connection for my iPod.

I am no expert, but road handling seems excellent. The thing that I am most obsessed with is the guide of when to change gear which is very useful, although perhaps potentially dangerous as I keep looking at it rather than the road! When I test drove a diesel Roomster the salesman said you can let diesel cars labour slightly where you wouldn't with a petrol. The guide on the dash really helps to give you a sense of when to change up but of course it cannot read the road ahead so sometimes find myself heading into bends in 5th gear.

Anyway, thanks for all the advice (it was many months ago) and now you know that there another Roomie convert out there!

Kind regards,

Matthew.

That opens a page that says "Ooops you don't have permission to view this page".

glad you like your roomster,

i have had diesels for over 15 years and would not go back to petrol,

simpler to service, no HT leads to get damp in the winter, engine life double of a petrol 200k-250k before major work etc etc

the only issue most have with a roomster is the external side appearence, i get some stick at work about it

but the insides, reliability and functionality outwiegh the exterior in my mind

had my first real problem with mine last week, a wiring problem in the engine bay which took me about 2 hours to fix, but remember mine is only 3 1/2 years old, but it has covered 130k miles

I think I managed to upload the pictures now - sorry about that!

Kind regards,

Your Roomster looks great and kids seem to like it too! I have a Fabia with the same engine as yours and I must admit I dont take a great deal of notice of the gear change indicator. I tend to listen to the engine and look at the road ahead, as I think much of the time, the car would have you in an inappropriate gear!

Love diesels and their fuel consumptions!! What power you got? 90 or 105bhp?

Regards

Grahame

Congrats on your new car. After 3 months and 3,000 miles I like Roomster more than I ever thought I would. They are just such a practical vehicle.

And the roof rails come in handy when you need something to grab on to step up onto the back wheel to wash the roof! : - )

Hello Grahame and onyertod,

Thanks for your replies and sorry for the delay in responding. I have been too busy driving around!

I have had the Roomster almost 5 weeks now and I love driving it. I keep kidding myself it is the best car on the road (as in the snazziest) and have to remind myself it is a Skoda. I look longingly at it as though it were a Porsche or something similar. I have the 105bhp version and am amazed how much oomph it has, if and when I need it.

Still can't stop looking at the gear change indicator and have had to tell my partner off too when she says from the passenger seat 'Shouldn't you be changing up now?' I am going to try and ween myself off it.

But, do you agree that diesels can labour in a high gear a little more than a petrol, as the sales guy suggested?

Only glitches so far is the alarm went off for no reason a few times over the weekend (any advice appreciated) and one of the electric windows was playing up where it would close and immediately open again. This was after trying the trick where you hold down the open button of the key fob until all windows open together. It seems to have cleared up though on its own.

I am sure I will be back with more questions...

Kind regards,

Matthew.

there is a system that detects an object trapped in the window and causes the system to lower the window ( shame, it stops the better half having a nasty accident with the windows :) )

if it is like other cars i have owned, to reset it , close the window fully then push and hold the window buttton until it is fully open, then lift and hold the button until the window is fully closed

hopefully after that normal service will be resumed

half the fun of a new car is going through the manual and finding out how all the gizmo's work then working out which ones are actually usefull, have you discovered if you only press the key once you can leave the wife and kids accidentally standing in the rain while you get in the car :) ?

Lol. Glad you're enjoying your Roomster. Just be sure you don't discover the - 200 miles from home, leave your 20 month old sleeping in the car, accidently lock the car with the remote fob, put the keys on the front seat as you need a free hand, and close the door as it's getting in the way of fitting your new roof box - trick :o:o
