how does a remap effect economy?

Featured Replies

i use my car for my driving school, so it never ever gets thrashed day to day, but with remaps so reasonably priced im tempted to go for one for my own fun at the weekends :) how would it effect the economy of the car whilst its being driven around town etc etc obviously i know it will use more juice when u put the boot down. cheers, tom.

Good point! If you can still get it insured as a remapped learner car then you'll find that the economy shouldn't be too badly affected. My last Furby was a 1.9TDI 100bhp remapped to 130bhp, and if anything the fuel economy improved when it was remapped.

Round town normal driving i think you would be hard pushed to notice a difference. Driving hard my MPG drops like a stone

I would suggest you go down the "switchable" route on the remap. I would not let my learner brother out in my remapped fabia as its not safe in such inexperienced hands. (albeit you have duel control)

As for fuel depends on how you drive it, if normally should not be that much of a difference, possibly even better?

Obviously I'm aware of the risk, of letting the learners drive it! But I'm not an idiot! Iv been speaking to the chap at shark who says there maps keep the car very standard feeling until u put ur toe down, which I can assure you never happens whilst on a lesson!! Are there many people who do switchable maps?

Hi mate, i have a vrs se with a revo remap.

Bought an sps on here second hand so you can switch between a stock and performance map.

You notice the difference when you turn it off! currently done 400 miles in stock mode and still have nearly half a tank left!

I have been driving more sensible with it off though because its a different car with it in performance mode, much quicker!

Hope this helps.

Cheers, jay.
