Servicing costs

Featured Replies

Posting this for a friend.

He owns a Fabia 1.2 HTP.

Just done 5K miles and the first service spanner light came on. So - he took it to get serviced no problem.

However - on coming to pay the bill it was

If it's an annual service, then there will be a fair amount of labour for the inspection, though I think 3 hours is probably pushing it - half an hour to change the oil and then 2 and a half hours to wiggle the tyres? :rubchin:

Pretty sure Skoda handbook says *not* to use petrol and oil additives, so if they've put petrol additives in without asking then they should get a b*ll**king for it.

9 litres is a hell of a lot of oil. I wouldn't have expected it to need more than 5l tops...

Rob.

I'd kick up a stink about the so-called Petrol Additive.

9 litres of oil is a complete joke, perhaps they've done it twice, as that might explain that labour charge too :D

Wasn't an annual one ;)

I suspected as much.

They didn't do anything apart from oil and screenwash tbh.

I'll show him this and let him decide what to do ;)

Cheers guys :D

Hmm...if it's not an annual one, it really shouldn't need servicing at 5k anyway!

Rob.

Fabia 1.2 HTP does not have a service indicator, and no indicator shaped like a spanner! (The closest I can think is the coolant temp/level light.) It requires an annual/10k service whichever comes first consisting of an engine oil change and inspection at the 1st 10k.

The 1.2 HTP engine takes 3 litres of oil max. Most dealers charge around

Was the service carried out by a franchised Skoda dealer or an independent / other marque dealer?

However - on coming to pay the bill it was

Franchised skoda dealer did it.

Silbury Skoda i believe.

And the car did put a spanner light on ;)

Really? Theres no spanner light in the manual and certainly not on my 1.2 HTP. Is it a 2005 facelift model?

Can't remember age of it mate - our lasses fathers car ;)

If it's only done 5k and not even 12 months old then the dealer should have advised him as such and asked him to come back when one or the other is reached.

Seems totally unbelievable if this account of the alledged facts is 100% correct, and I hope he goes back in to demand a full explanation...oh and tell him to check the oil level before he turns another wheel. 9litres in a probably 5 litre capacity could do untold damage to the engine. I'ts a wonder they managed to squeeze that much in if correct.

Just a thought on the oil quantity thing:

When I had a Honda, I thought the dealer had ripped me off by charging me for too much oil. Closer inspection of the invoice revealled that they had actually charged for the oil in half-litre units rather than litres.

If that's the same here then only 4.5 litres of oil will have been put in.

Or that the engine requires about 5L of oil, but the oil only comes in 4.5L containers, therefore requiring two :D

Highly suspicious though :rubchin:

Worth a thought - will pass this on ;)

Well then they should give you the rest of the bottle....
