Noise on pulling away

Featured Replies

Hi all, recently bought a 03 Octavia vrs with 85k. Ive noticed a noise when pullng away in 2nd gear, mainly when your slightly labouring the engine. Ive been underneath and ive noticed the centre exhaust bracket is rotted away and nothing is supporting the exhaust in the middle. Could it be the exhaust shaking when under load do you think??

Thanks in advance, Karl.

what sort of noise is it? the heat shield on the cat has a tendancy to break its welds so could be that?

the brackets being broken would'nt help the exhaust could be rattling about and will be under excess stress due to having no support

Ive already taken the cat shield off as it was rattling too. The noise does sound exhaust related, im hoping it is the centre bracket, to be honest the centre and rear sections are looking tired. That brings me to another question, wheres the best place to go for a standard replacement?

The exhausts are probably fine with some surface rust. If you wat to change its probably worth getting a stainless replacement (check ebay for starters) as the price of good parts will most likely to come to the same.

no need to mine did it just take it in and have it welded, it is a known problem if ya don'y want or have to spend money do that if not get a full system will cost ya though not cheap for these
