Daytime Running Lights

Hi All,

Has any body with a new Superb with the DRL's in the fog lamp Assembly checked to see what type the bulbs are?

I have a new Superb on order and would like to change the bulb for a CANBUS compatable LED light.

Just need to know what type of bulb it is as it is not stated in the downloaded manual?

Many Thanks

AB-P

I would love to know also (I asked the same question previously, but there was no answer) emoticon-0106-crying.gif

Hello all, I believe the new Superb uses the same FogLight/DRL combo as the Octavia, if such is the case the bulb for it should be PY21W.

Hope it helps.

DRL brightness is dictated by EU legislation, so replacing the bulb could be considered illegal. They are already a quiet bright peircing light designed to be seen in bright sunlight.

Also consider that when DRLs are on, they replace the sidelights and when you turn on the headlights the DRLs dim to take on the sidelight role. LED lights cannot dim, so when you turn on your headlights, your DRL's will go out completely as they are no longer receiving a 12V electrical supply. This also means, no sidelight setting on the headlight switch as they will not work. They dim, because at night they will be far to bright and blinding because unlike normal headlights/sidelights they are designed to be seen in very bright sunlight.

Ehh?

Superb DRL are in the fog, when putting on side lights, they are switched off completely, and use a w5w bulb in the main headlight unit.. On my elegance it is anyway!

Hi Mannyo

Ever seen an Audi?

The LED DRL's dim all the time, especially when the indicator is used.

Also the Superb DRL's are in the lower Fog lamp assembly and therefore do not interfere with the Indicators or headlamps.

They are also (As far as I understand 21W lamps) not too bright and definitely not a bright peircing light.

I just want to replace the 21W yellow looking low power bulb with a more modern looking LED lamp.

It is possible to dim LED's, but you can not dim them in the same way that you dim standard bulbs. You need a special dimming circuit to dim LED's.

So replacing a standard bulb that dims with a LED is going to make the LED turn off when the dimming should occur .

The DRL's on the Superb don't dim when you turn sidelights are, they just turn off.

You'll have no problems retrofitting LED's as long as you use a certain type that prevent the blown bulb error message on the dash.

The DRL's are very similar to those on the non vRS FL Octavia.

Hi all,

I´m the one that showed all the process of puting leds on the DRL.

Yes it was better to get CAN-BUS compatable ones, but 2 problems.

1. Price of them are way expensive compared to the ones I used

2. Hard to find, well I couldn´t find any :)

Another thing, our DRL do go off totally when you put park lights on.

Have you seen the new Merc E and the Insignia or even the Citroen C3, they have LEds that donnot dimm at all and are always on, they are used as park lights.
