Rough Road pack

Hi all - newby both to forum and Skoda here. About to buy, probably, an Elegance 140 DSG model - and have possible option of an ex-demo one. Does anyone know if any or all the RRP can be after-fitted by a willing dealer, or someone else? Presumably, although this is a factory order option, the parts must be available, potentially, for replacement etc?

Thanks as lot. Already learned so much here, and the info has helped my buying decision somewhat more than somewhat!

Not 100% sure but would have thought that as they are only protection panels they could be retro fitted.

There are some photo's (taken by TP) on one of the recent threads showing the underside protection have a look and see what you think.

are brake lines not also re routed?

I shall correct myself, Rough Road Pack as described in Brochure:

Rough road package

The Rough road package is available as an option on SE and Elegance with

either Front-wheel or all-wheel drive. The rough road package comprises of:-

• A metal cover for the engine and transmission

• A plastic cover for the fuel and brake lines

• Reinforced brake fluid distribution system and hand-brake cable

The vehicles ground clearance is not affected by the installation of

this package and remains at 180mm

* Standard on Elegance 4x4. Optional on S and SE 4x4 models.

Thanks very much for the welcome, and the replies. In fact, i have just been to the dealer and done the deal - tha car - a demo one - has the pack already fitted, to my astonishment. So i don't have to worry - BTW - the dealer didnt know if was was possible to retrofit, but was willing to explore, had it been necessary. He said he would have thought that, as a minimum, the front guard should be OK.

As I bought my Yeti as an ex-demonstrator, I didn't have the chance to specify the Rough Road Package, and I would also at least like the metal tray under the engine for a bit more protection.

I'm not planning on doing any major bog-snorkeling type off-road stuff, but do cover a lot of miles of forest tracks as a rally photographer, and would like the peace of mind of that bit of extra protection.

I've just been round to my local dealers (Vindis Cambridge) and the very helpful chap on parts looked it all up and found all the parts and prices needed to replace the plastic guard with the metal one - its not a direct replacement as the metal one has extra mounting brackets and bolts rather than just the self-tapping screws that hold up the plastic one.

For a TDi Yeti, these are the parts you need. He suggested if they fitted it, it would take about half an hour.

1K0 018 930 J - engine/gearbox assy skid plate - metal - model: 4wd diesel eng. - qty: 1 - £114.48

1K0 018 926 B - arm - qty: 1 - £9.73

N 105 056 02 - hex collared bolt - M12X1,5X80 - qty: 2 - £2.58

Don't forget the protective clear plastic film that's fitted to the rear doors. This is part of the rough-road pack, but not listed as such in the brochure. If you check some of the older posts here you'll see you can get this film retrofitted quite easily. I would suggest that the film is the most useful part of the pack (for most people), as it provides an extra level of paintwork protection.

RallySimon's details will be of interest to many, I bet, and it is typical of the Yeti (I am discovering..), that it is possible to after-fit the plate. I am betting that most, if not all, the other bits of the kit could be ordered and fitted too, but I think (from about 30 years offroad experience with Defenders and precursors) that the plate alone would give me a lot of added confidence. I guess cost is the issue - I think the price of the full kit, added to an order, is about the same as the parts mentioned for the plate. I think it is money well spent, and would certainly have gone for it if mine had not, fortuitously, already got the kit fitted. Including that plastic film which, I am reading, really is necessary if you are going to do anything on loose surfaces at all.

The metal tray under the engine will have to wait till I've sorted out some finances though...

The parts guy at the dealers did confirm all the other parts of the Rough Road Pack are on the system if needed - he just listed out those parts for me as it was just the engine tray I was interested in.

The clear plastic film on the rear doors, previously part of the Rough Road Pack is now standard on all models. Very recently introduced (and seen in the flesh today).

Ah... well I've ordered it as an add on from my dealer. Maybe I should cancel it as they will just charge me for something I should not have paid for!

Sorry I should have been clearer: I only ordered the foils, not the whole Rough Road Pack. emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

I had a look under the SM today at the Rough Road Pack. I was under the impression that the panel under the engine was metal, but most of mine seems to be plastic with a smaller metal panel positioned beneath the steering rack.

The under side panels are also thick plastic.

Has the material changed or has this always been the case?

I would check with the dealer again!

Tim, do you reckon it would be easy to get some dimensions etc of the sump guard, as I have a fabricator friend who reckons he could make them fairly easily if he had some CAD drawings?

Tim, would decent photos from underneath help as I'm due to get mine up on ramps in about an hour or so? I'm sure I saw some of your earlier photos which showed close ups of all the rough road components in situ? If you do need ant further, specific ones then just reply here and I'll come back and check once it's in the air....

if you can get some photos of the steel tray and the position of the mounting fixtures that would be great. Also be interested in observations on the plastic floor pan covers as they I believe are strengthened but difficult to tell other than at the rear.

My friend has a fabricating business in the Black Country complete with lazer cutters and presses, etc, so internal holes or bends are not a problem. He says all he needs is either a full CAD drawing (easiest) or a complete set of accurate measurements that he will have to convert himself. That might need several bottles of plonk! He says it would be better made in ali, as this would be as strong but lighter, probably 4mm chequerplate.

Photos would be useful.

Just found an intriguing post and pictures on the French forum; according to Google translate the op states his wife's Yeti has the pack off road. However the underside photo's show a plastic cover and I cannot make out door foils but obviously there not easy to spot My link

So that's a bit of a mystery.

Also note they have ditched the Factory Goodyear tyres and fitted MICHELIN Latitude Tour HP 4x4 M+S tyres My link to their 16" moon alloys.

Well after crawling around under mine this afternoon I can confirm that it certainly doesn't look like that one! The front sump on mine is metal (and absolutely solid!) and the rear suspension arms are covered in a thick plastic protector and several other bits also look reinforced. There two very large plastic under tray pieces running down each side but I'm guessing these are standard on all yeti's for aerodynamic purposes? I got a few photos but they are pretty naff tbh due to space constraints.

Well after crawling around under mine this afternoon I can confirm that it certainly doesn't look like that one! Mine neither; will wait with interest to see what turns up with 'Monster III' sometime next year all being well, as I've spc'd the rough road pack again.

Edit just checked with the Lies, Lies and more Damned Lies (SUK Configurator :giggle: ) which states the following;

"The rough road package consists of a metal cover for the engine and transmission, a plastic cover for the fuel and brake lines and reinforced brake fluid distribution system and handbrake cables"

Which pretty much describes what's fitted to PAT

I've just been out in the dark with a torch for another look under the SM.

The engine under tray is deffinately thick black plastic, the same type of material is fitted along the underside adjacent to the sills with some more plastic covers on the lower surfaces of the rear suspension.

Makes me wonder if it is actually fitted with the rough road package? Does the normal SM have an engine under tray?

If anyone has any more photos of this package I would be interested in having a look. I will attempt to take some photos tomorrow and post.

Sounds like you have parts of what's fitted to ours but a plastic under-tray is normally associated with the diesels without the pack but for sound insulation so is not protective. Unless they have changed the steel design to a heavy grade plastic instead :wonder: Be interesting to see if yours matches that seen on the French Yeti. How old is your Monster?
