Rough Road pack

Featured Replies

Collected Thursday 4th November, built week 41.

A few have been collected this week so maybe someone else with the option could have a look, and update this thread.

Contemplating a trip to the local dealer to let them check.

Beginning to wonder if they have changed things then.

Be grateful if you could keep us updated if you do speak to the dealer, also appreciate photo's if possible.

Regards,

TP

They haven't changed the brochure yet, so it still says metal......

Thanks for your assistance it would be nice to get the definitive answer to this one.

I've been under again today in the daylight. I'm not overly concerned as the undertray is a substantial piece of plastic approximate 4-5mm thick. If this is the standard undertray it's a good bit of kit.

I'll upload some images later today. Need to get on with the wallpapering.

Doesn't sound like the standard tray as that I believe it's a fairly 'lightweight' material with sound insulation on the inside and clipped into place. Is your plastic guard clipped or bolted to the chassis, as the steel version is quite firmly bolted.

TP

edit; oh by the way do you have the stone guard foils on the rear doors?

Edited by The Plumber

The standard plastic windage tray on the non-off road package Yeti is also bolted in with a bunch of screws. There is no insulation as such, but some plastic bubbles on the inside.

It works very well for retaining dropped stuff, like a mirror used for replacing light bulbs :S

Yes got the stone guard tape on the rear doors.

Plastic guard looks to be bolted in place. On the leading edge, towards the front nearside is what I can only describe as an air scoop, probably there to aid cooling around the engine.

Will post images later, currently taking an impromptu break from the decorating.

Many thanks,

looks very much like they have replaced the steel tray with a tough plastic one instead. Probably lighter (emissions) cheaper to manufacture and not subject to corrosion. Will await photo's with interest.

Being old fashioned I still like the idea of a lump of steel in the way of an object rather than heavy grade plastic. Mind it didn't help the Titanic :(

I also have the clear film on the rear doors.

So the question is, is this the standard under body protection of the rough road package? Any comment greatly received.

Hi Onesque,

I had a look under our yeti (SE, build week 37/10, rough road pack) and it looks identical to your pictures. I guess Skoda

must have changed the specification at some point.

Phibes.

Appears to have a reduced level of protection to that afforded by the RRP on the earlier models, even the side floor-pan covers seem to be lacking some of the additional protection at the rear.

Found diagrams of the original MY2010 engine noise insulation under-trays as fitted to non RRP models.

Petrol

Would say what you have is not the same as these either; close to that of the diesel but with additional fastenings and probably a heavier gauge material.

Have sent James at Allams an e-mail to ask if he can find out what's going on, as obviously any changes will effect my new Beast. Also SUK web site states quite clearly a steel tray.

TP

Very interesting - the Yeti tray looks very similar to the plastic one fitted on my MY11 octavia scout. Does anyone know what the opening does in the third image.

Must admit I would have preferred metal, but for the type of driving (occasional forest track / field / verge) I am likely to do this is probably more than adequate.

If the construction has changed it would have been nice to have been informed of the change or the change having been documented somewhere.

Not sure but assume it's to allow air flow under and around the engine.

Im guessing this will be another of the 'economising' of the Skoda brand by VAG?? The original rough road pack certainly looks more substantial and covers more areas of the underside by the look of those photos.

Regarding the older information thats still on the website and in the brochure; unfortunately thats why they state that all the details are subject to change without notice etc etc :(

Just to confirm my build week 39 Yeti has the RR pack and it matches the type Onesque has on his. Will be interesting to see (if we ever find out) as to the reasons for the change.

Just to update this post.

Had an e-mail back from James at Allams; he's been onto SUK who have spoken to the Factory and yes the steel shield has been replaced by a thermoplastic shield. This apparently happened some weeks back, I suspect myself WK22 as updates often occur around then.

Many thanks to James for taking time to find this information out and brining this change to the attention of SUK emoticon-0136-giggle.gif Hopefully will see a amendment to there literature shortly.

TP

I was just sort of feeling a bit smug about having the original RRP, when I had a rethink, and wondered if it has been replaced because it caused a potential problem emoticon-0124-worried.gif

I am hoping, for everyone's sake (including mine) that this is not the case, and that the revised one works just as well. It certainly looks very substantial indeed, and they wouldn't have replaced it if the new item didn't do the job, I'm sure. It will be interesting if we get any more information about the reason for this change, though.

If I wasn't a member here I wouldn't have had the slightest knowledge - what a place this is!

Edit - hey TP, you could always unbolt Pat's - I am sure you wouldnt do that though!emoticon-0145-shake.gif

To be honest, some of the modern plastics are as resistant as steel, and I doubt that most owners will ever hit it that hard. There will be several cars on the WRGB this week using plastic sump guards...............

if they can cope with that I don't think we have to worry.

Think this is a financial change not a fault with the original pack. Interesting that you have the steel panel with DSG. So the change is post WK22 then, thanks emoticon-0148-yes.gif

No I'm not going to rob PAT; James can rest easy emoticon-0136-giggle.gif but I might try order the rear strengthening panels for the floor-pan covers, that appear to have been deleted as well; if there also missing from the new Beast.

Feeling a bit peeved about this because I was talked into having the RRP because I wanted the rear foils, and the way it was priced it as a dealer fit it sort of made sense to have the RRP including the foils and the other benefits, including a steel protection plate for the sump. Now I find the foils are factory fitted as standard, the metal shield is now plastic and bits at the back which were protected no longer are! What else is the VW "decontenting" process for Skoda going to remove from what I thought I had ordered? emoticon-0120-doh.gif

Build week 47 so too late to change now.

Are James's ears burning?

Fred

I am not sure when it was built, but mine was first registered here on 1st September, I think.

TP thanks for the update with your enquiries with James.

I rang the dealer today and they are looking into it. They were wondering if there was a different spec between EU and UK models, although he muted that there had been some discussion regarding changing from metal to a composite material.

The dealer kindly rang back this afternoon, stating he has had to pass on the query to the 'boffins' (who every they might be?) and will be in contact in due course.

As I've already stated the shielding appears more than adequate for the use I will be putting the SM to, infact, will be put into practice this coming weekend on the WRC.
