Im going to fit my vrs front brakes at the weekend... any other bits i need? presuming hubs will be the same accross models?

Nope, you need the hubs and carriers too

bah feck switching the hubs aswell!

Thats why no bugger does the conversion!!!!!

Girl. :giggle:

ha ha if some hubs come up ill crack on might have to wait a few months though, other bits to address first, any other models share the same front hubs as fabia..vag parts bin and all that

Is it not worth just getting 312's then?

Matt

Depends on the spec really. I converted cheryls MPi to vRS brakes up front and discs at the back, with super DOT4 fluid it stops plenty fine.

my summer wheels won't clear 312s mate :)

anyone any ideas on other hubs i can use as i know breakers love to add VRS tax...

FWIW, I reckon the standard-size Mintex Extreme pads and Zero-Sixty discs I used to have stopped the car just as quick as the OEM 312s I have now - they just didn't last as long and overheated if I was really cracking on. By the same logic, it might be worth seeing what kind of difference fast road pads make on the normal discs for your 1.4?

very true but im fitting the 288s for purely asthetic reasons for the time being... got my first child on the way in march so after that i can work on replacing the 1.4 (ive done a few 20v swaps in my time) and hopefully my insurance will have calmed down as ive just come off a 12months ban for totup

Just out of interest, your 1.4 does have ABS doesn't it? Some of them didn't in those days, and I wouldn't fancy bigger brakes with no ABS!

i personally would prefer it not to...i'll be entirely honest though ive not looked

I think the 2.0 had vRS brakes on it - with all that power it needs something more substantial really though! :giggle:

Might be worth looking into seeing if they're the same.

Why? Cars didnt used to have ABS and didn't crash, also most race sets up don't have it to give greater control. Our MPi don't have ABS just running 288mm up front and standard vRS spec rears and braking is fine, never once locked up.

Maybe wider tyres help, as the non-ABS brakes on my other half's MPi lock up quite readily if the road's damp and anything above 'firm' braking is needed...

I dislike ABS after coming from a non-ABS car. It seems over-eager to engage, especially on wet/gravelly roads. I'd rather decide myself when and how to free off the brakes.

There does seem to be a place to bolt a caliper carrier on at the rear?! There's two bolt holes just behind the drum back plate.

Edit: Bah just noticed the thread is about fronts :D

Yep the rear beam is the same.

I have everything in the shed to do a rear conversion bar two lines and cables.

Caliper lh + rd

Carriers x 2

Heatsheild x 2

Pads

Discs

Pretty sure the stub axle and hubs are the same.
