Alarm problem

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

I have a Jan 2010 1.8tsi SE dsg estate and am having a problem with the alarm going off very intermittently. The last time was yesterday in our driveway where the car has been sitting for 4 days without being used.

It has been back once to the suppliers, Caffyns Tonbridge, who advised the log showed a previous occurrence as 'drivers door not properly shut' and no other faults. I wasn't convinced about the door not being shut but you never know of course.

I also asked for the sensitivity to be turned down but was told this is not possible. I have since read on other threads that it is possible to adjust the sensitivity so before taking up the cudgels with Caffyns is this just dealers ignorance or simply that they do not have the right equipment which strange as assume they all would have the same diagnostic box of tricks? (I don't really want to go to another dealer for a simple job as Caffyns are very convenient for me.)

Also it may be imagination but on the last two occasions when rushing out to the front door to turn the alarm off I have had the impression that nearby neighbours have just locked/unlocked their cars. Not really certain about that and don't see that this should be an issue.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Cheers

Have you tried searching the forum?, I believe there was a thread about someone having the alarm trigger for no appparent issue and they tracked it down to a faulty door sensor.

You can adjust the sensitivity of Interior alarm. I have set mine to 70% with VCDS, as when i had the sunroof open a little it would trigger the alarm.

I have had this with my month-old Octavia. Temporary cure was to shut all the air vents before locking. When I took it back to the dealer they hooked the car up and found that the sensitivity was set at 100% at the factory, whereas it should be at 70%, and a new complete factory download reset it to this level, since when I haven't had an alarm go off. I have read, however, that some people have had to 'wind theirs back' to 50% to eliminate the problem.

Your dealer is either having a laugh, or is ignorant (or possibly both).

I got mine turned down to 50.

I have an ongoing alarm problem with my 2006 Octavia. I had it looked at last week at a main dealer and the diagnosis came back as a siren fault. I know this is right as when the alarm goes off the siren doesn't work, only the hazards flash. On the odd ocasion the siren has gone off, but that is rare. I have read on other car forums that a faulty siren can cause intermittent alarm activations. My car is going in this friday to have a new siren fitted (£120 supplied and fitted). At the same time I'm also going to ask them to check the interior sensor sensitivity level.

Thanks guys for the replies and will have another go at the dealer about resetting sensitivity

Cheers

I also had the sensitivity 'turned down' on mine (vRS), and (touch wood) it has been fine since. Was set to 100 by the factory (can't remember if they changed to 50 or 70).

Question: Do all Octavias have ultrasonic alarms? You would only be able to change the sensitivity if the alarm is ultrasonic.
