1.2 TSi best fuel economy ever ! (for me)

Featured Replies

I've just set a new record for my 1.2 TSi in terms of fuel economy. Managed to cover 453 miles on a full tank, with the OBC suggesting a range of a further 10 miles.

It then cost me £61.60 for just under 54 litres of Esso's finest:

This worked out at a calculated MPG of 38 for the tank. The OBC was also pretty much spot on at 37.9 mpg.

I've noticed a fairly big jump in fuel economy since my cam position sensor was changed a few months ago. I now regularly see mid 30's mpg in mainly urban use and around 40 mpg extra urban. As before this does drop rather precipitously at higher speeds, presumably due to the aerodynamics.

I also had the chance to try a 140 BHP TDi Yeti at the weekend. This was reading 37 mpg over the last 1500 miles, despite an average speed of 33 mph. It didn't feel hugely quicker from a standing start than the 1.2, but once rolling was obviously much quicker in the mid range. The engine was alsokeener to rev than the last PD unit I recall driving. I was however surpised how noisey it was. Whilst certainly quieter than a PD, it certainly seemed louder than the last French diesel I drove. Did like the seats in the Elegance model though!

Left the Monster at home and had a run to work and back in my wife's Fabia TSI 85 today to fill up as it's cheaper over there for fuel. Only able to go on the fuel computer but it showed 47mpg there and back, with 1200 miles on the clock so far :) If it wasn't for the gear indicator I wouldent now were we were as the engine is generally so quite and low revving. Tyre roar is the dominating feature on the Fabia Elegance (205/45 R16 tyres) but it's great to drive.

I've yet to try the 1.2 TSi in anything else, but imagine it must go well in the Fabia.

Hi

I've still less than 1000 on the clock on my 1.2 tsi manual but still managed to get 41mpg on a round trip Ross on Wye to Brum (146ml) and back , three quarters motorway driving .

I'm not a youngster but don't exactly hang about, so I'm wondering is the computer read out being a bit generous?

But going by the feedback from yourself and other members with the same engine it does seem quite plauseable.

The engine still feels as if it has quite a bit in reserve and is begging to be worked a bit harder.

I am still very pleased with the overall performance and quality of my Yeti even after owning quite a few larger BHP up market cars.

Don't know what mileage you have on your clock but I'm sure my MPG will increase as my engine loosens.

Overall I've found the changeover from diesel to petrol not to painful on the pocket as I thought it would be.

All best 7029bob

Now averaging 43-44 mpg with my (oldder engined) 140 TDI. I have noticed that the average, as shown on the Maxidot, is slowly improving. Have now done 12000 miles. I would be optimistic to expect much more improvement but, with my driving, all the diesels I have owned have not really bedded in until 20000 miles.

540 miles from the tank of a 1.2TSi?! :o:o Thats beyond what I thought it would be capable of - very impressive!

My best result with my 1.2 Yeti is 935km (580 miles) with one tank. Needless to say that this didn't include any motorway driving. Oil tank still full (after 6000km).

Hi Pinkpanther! Can you describe, what was wrong with the cam position sensor and why was it changed?

*No need! I take it back as I found the original thread*

i have seen 580/590 on good run's

I remeber when I first run in the car (ie driving very very slowly), it would often show that I get around 53-55 mpg average on a 60mph run on the motorway. However, now after the car has run in, and me driving a "little faster", I get around 40 mpg on mainly motorway run. But then the car is almost constantly above 3000 rpm.
