Octavia odometer and trip meter

Featured Replies

Hi folks - first post - hopefully some knowledgeable soul will know the answer(s)

My 55 Octavia 2.0 TDi Sport only ever shows the trip miles when I'm driving. I can press the button and it switches to the odometer reading but if you switch off the ignition it goes back to trip every time. Any way to get it stay as the odometer all the time?

My rear washers have stopped putting water onto the rear window. I'm not sure if the pump has stopped (it sounds like it is still working) but I think the water is getting dumped somewhere else before getting to the nozzle - where does the pipe route within the tailgate?

cheers

Kev.

Seems to be quite a common problem on these, I have seen (but cannot remember where on this site) a fix for this, might be worth doing a search under "rear wiper problems"

Odometer - there is no way to change it - that is the way it is.

Rear wash - check the jets first - they have a nasty habit of clogging up! Lift the cover at the base of the wiper and the jet assembly just pulls off. Fire it without the jets to see if water is getting through before trying more involved stuff.

Yeah it's the same on the FL.

When driving along, the odometer turns into KM/H

I'd rather see the odometer myself.. but silly EU laws dictate otherwise :D

Thanks for all the responses. The odometer thing seems really odd - only car I've ever had that's done this.

Weather permitting I'll investigate the rear washers tomorrow.

cheers

The odometer function is working as designed, all the cars without the maxidot will display the trip computer in preference to the total mileage travelled. My old Octavia was the same and it was one of the reasons I changed to a Maxidot dashpod as it displays both trip mileage and total mileage simultaneously.

For the washer there are a number of pipe connections that may have popped off. Untill you have identified where its broken try not to use the washer as water could be escaping close to electrical connections and you dont want these to corrode with the water/screenwash mix.

Symptom of this was the outer 3 LED on each side of the rear window brake light were glowing dimly all the time. Once again, neutralize thoroughly before drying out the electrics.

I'm glad you mentioned this, I've followed a few VW Golf's recently where the LED high level brake light has been permanently lit but very dim, but as you say, only the outer few LED's on either side. The normal brake lights worked as expected.

They too must suffer from the rear washer feed disconnecting!

I always wondered what caused this as over the years I've seen this a few times on the Golf, but never the Octavia.

I've just got myself an Octavia Sport today and I have a similar issue with the rear washer jets, they just dribble out a small amount water . I'll have a look at them properly tomorrow as I think it could be the plastic housing causing problems, but what's the best way of cleaning them?

Also with the trip meter, is there any way to reset it? I can reset the stuff in memory, but don't seem to be able to reset the trip meter.

Cheers

Thanks Mike. It was dark when I was looking so had assumed the reset button did it all, Doh!
